I've noticed this in a couple of other black content creators videos, it's possible that they are playing into the 'meme' on purpose or they just aren't bothered about it, but what's racist about making that observation? this is kinda everything thats wrong with political discourse on the internet. people think discussions are not worth having unless it's some kind of 1v1 arena debate battle to the death and you're a 'coward' if you want to avoid it
@reddillon84252 ай бұрын
Typically these kinds of people are exposed to absolute mountains of dogwhistles on a daily basis, and so they perceive every question as an attack on something And you can blame conservatives for that with their constant dogwhistles on things like jews, vaccines, "let's go brandon" etc etc, conservatives are in love with dogwhistles So when this guy hears Sam Harris asking a question about Destiny making a decision Sam Harris personally would not make, what he hears in his head is: "Sam Harris: So, Destiny.. WHY WOULD YOU PLATFORM SUCH SUBHUMAN TRASH? ARE YOU YOURSELF SUBHUMAN TRASH, DESTINY? HUH?? HUH???? GOTCHA DESTINY! I GOT YOU! CLIP CHIMPED!!" I do, on some level get where the caller is coming from though, I just think he's overcompensating too far in the opposite direction. Destiny speaks to the idea of everyone praising him for having a "meaningful discussion with the opposition" but the reality is they just sat together and exchanged pleasantries while Destiny was basically being used as a way to legitimize these insane ideas. So the instinct, and Destiny himself showed this with the Twitter space call, is to go HARD in the FULLY OPPOSITE DIRECTION (and I fully agree with Destiny's decision to do so, but just the once at the very beginning, to make it very clear to the world where you stand lol) and I believe that THAT is the mindset the caller is coming from. You can tell just from hearing him talk that there's a LOT of context for his beliefs that he's probably steeped in on a daily basis that we don't really have, so these ideas look a little off the wall without that context.

Nah Destiny's decision to speak to any and every one was a very calculated decision. He was never shoehorned into it, it wasn't like an Oprah-having-to-interview-little-people kind of a deal. And Sam Harris' decision was based on deteriorating mental health as a result of these discussions, so that wasn't a "well I'm established now, don't have to do this anymore" type thing either. Destiny recently spoke to a literal flat earther and then some dude with the soul of a conservative wine mom so I think he's still very much doing the "I will talk to anybody" thing And I mean, he does say as much, he says he'll talk to anybody but the way the discussions are going to go is going to be VERY different Also, Destiny recently spoke to Nick Fuentes AGAIN at the HEIGHT of Destiny's fame lol, Andrew Tate as well

“separated himself from the IDW, I view that as cowardice and I thought you would too. Dear Goddess. There are many potential routes to the summit of Annapurna II. All routes are difficult, some are more dangerous than others, while others will guarantee death. Some people think the only way to summit the mountain is by exercising their vocal cords, because moving your feet, employing your ice axe, & fixing ropes is hard. ‘What, you’re not going to continue your dialog with the team that’s speaking about taking the route that will kill everyone in 2 hours? You’re such coward” If we limit ourselves to conversations, we’d still be in the caves, having conversations. I think there are many people out there who think if we speak it, then it magically happens. That’s not how it works. Much of the time better things happen because person Y simply shuts up, & begins to walk. Then, when others notice that Y’s sitting on the summit with a massive smile on their face, they say ‘how the fuck did you make it to the summit?’, & Y simply points to their own foot prints & fixed rope, rather than their never-ending conversations with members of this pretentious, self-gratifying pseudo-club known as the IDW.

I think this guy had more of a point than he realized, since i dont remember sam saying he got mental anguish from arguing with stupid people, but that he got mental anguish from twitter and social media. as far as i'm aware his reason for not debating certain people like rfk is because of a more logical reason of thinking it would be harmful, which is something destiny could've pushed back on, and not because he simply thought it would be bad for his mental health. also ngl i thought the whole meditation stuff would mean that sam would've tried to learn how to coexist with social media without having it harm his mind, as opposed to simply removing it from his life altogether, but im not a spiritual meditation guy so idk
@reddillon84252 ай бұрын
He's not totally wrong though, and we all, ESPECIALLY Destiny himself, found this out during Destiny's recent arc. The way it can be harmful is when you go on these shows with these insane personalities and don't push back enough, so while everyone is praising you for having a "civil discussion" what actually happened is that you've legitimized their absolutely bananas talking points. That being said, I agree with Destiny's solution of "Still talk to everybody, but the WAY you talk to them has to be different and more combative" than Sam Harris' solution of "Just don't talk to them"
@verity1372 ай бұрын
I personally don’t think much of this criticism. However, I do think there was a missed opportunity to educate Sam, especially as it relates to the Gaza conflict. He has harshly criticized student protest and confused being Pro Palestinian with being antisemitic. I think there may be a bias there for an otherwise reasonable guy. His conversation with Don Lemon where he states African Americans are positively advantaged right now in the private sector and in college admissions disregarding historical context. Last, his inconsistency with being an effective Zionist. As an atheist he was consistent with not being for a religious state in any context. That has changed and it was due to “lack of understanding of antisemitism”. I could say he has the same lack of understanding for African Americans and socioeconomic factors that led to disparities that is now trying to put minorities on an equitable plane.

I do think it’s incredibly hilarious that Sam Harris would ever imagine in the deepest recesses of his mind that he has any right to tell somebody that they may be laundering the reputations of disreputable people, considering the company he has kept for years. he helped raise up the intellectual dark web and he knew exactly what these people were. Did not care whether he was laundering their reputations as long as they were lockstep with him on religion. It doesn’t matter whether he wants to do blood sports or not. He doesn’t deserve to remain in the public eye without someone challenging him on his past bullshit. and I say this as someone that was a big fan of his. To not even promote compromise and the desire for both sides to work together to pass legislation is absolutely wild. Grateful for the Kamala vote, but you have to admit that his position is hard to understand.
@Under_the_Iceberg2 ай бұрын
Really, a stalled government is better than one moving in the wrong direction which is precisely what conservatives worry about. We've all grown up around someone who "had this awesome idea" and we watched them try to execute it only to watch them crash and burn for their efforts. I think the republican party should, as a policy, just pick 2 years to vote in favor of literally any and every democratic party policy, and let us all watch what happens.
@t_p36882 ай бұрын
I would agree with that, as well as stop demonizing any and everything the Democrats propose. My entire adult life the cycle has been a Republican driving the economy into a ditch, then a Democrat having to clean up afterwards and the Republican criticizes and demonizes there way into begging to have the keys back. They appear to be apart of the problem and not the solution. They obstruct on everything and have been doing it since the Obama years. “Wrong direction” is a matter of opinion. Poll numbers suggest that action should be taken on things like Gun laws, climate change, healthcare. The Republican Party is out of touch and find themselves in the wrong decade.
