Combine this with Cold War fears and their combat actions in Syria and the Georgian and Chechnyan wars, it makes sense why we believed they would walk all over Ukraine. And even after Ukraine, they are the world's largest nuclear power by raw numbers of warheads and will that will always be taken into consideration. It's never a bad thing to overestimate your enemies capabilities. Remember in Desert Storm we lost like 200 coalition troops with 1000 wounded, but we initially expected that just the US alone would have 10,000 dead in the first week.

Yeah you can lift more weights if you’re bigger, so what. In a fight that advantage could be the difference between cracking your opponents skulls and not. Basketball, being a non contact sport is the same way. Yeah there’s advantages to being taller, but you’re probably not gonna die because you’re less heavy or smaller. Hassan needs to try boxing or mma or wrestling or American football, where being smaller than your opponent could literally result in you dying or being paralyzed if you’re not careful.

You could take the French government approach and construct definitions in a proscriptive sense, but most private and public creators of dictionaries have a descriptive philosophy as their approach. I'm not sure any conversation about trans people in sports could be productive without going to the sports organizations who arrived at the conclusion that the inclusion of trans people should be allowed given their own internal investigations, studies, and/or research with respect to their intended goals as private and public institutions. So far, virtually only laymen have discussed this, leading us nowhere, with factions being set in stone where virtually no one changes their positions. Consensus among the general populace seems no where in site. Only experts can bring this consensus, because a large part of this discussion is ultimately an empirical matter.

They couldn't be making things, because they'd have to be corroborating each other, so they are using facts. It is those specific experts that the sports organizations relied upon that we need to ask questions to in order to gain insight into their reasoning. So far, almost no one on any side of the public debate is interested in doing this. So in effect, no one is being canceled for stating "facts". No one is bothering to check the relevant facts in the first place to even accept or dismiss them. I've only seen one example of a person attempting to find the research used by the sport's organizations. It was in Ethel's video on the channel Essence of thought where they respond to the channel rationality rules regarding their opposition to trans women in sports. Regardless if you agree or disagree with them, they at least made an attempt to use arguments that referenced some of the research used by various professional sports organizations.

@@Shockguey If we want to demonstrate that those experts are only trying "to not say the wrong thing" we would still need to focus on their work, because their work is what convinced sports organizations to give the green light for trans people under certain parameters. How can we bring doubt to a piece of research if we don't even look at it? There's also the issue of reproducible results which any group of researchers, private or public have the freedom to test. So it would usually be very risky to produce studies which have false information. Not having accurate information can lead, at best, leave you irrelevant as people judge your work as low quality with low reproducibility, or , at worst, completely ruin your career if someone can demonstrate deception beyond a reasonable doubt. Lying to be nicer to trans people or for any other reason isn't a viable means to build one's career as a researcher. Especially to be respected enough to be used by groups like the Olympics. They could be wrong, but we have to actually LOOK at their work and not lazily assume there's some agenda manufacturing fake data that no other researchers bother falsifying for some strange reason.

Right. Typical person who "truly cares" for those less fortunate. They absolutely *must* have a government program to force them to do what they know in their hearts is right. Guess what? You can redistribute *your* wealth all on your own. You can even choose who it goes to that way and make sure it's people/causes with whom you agree and/or want to support. I'm guessing that though he's never the smartest man in the room, even Hasan is aware of this. Government programs are only really needed to force *other* people to behave the way *you* think is correct. Funny how that works. The favorite inspirational quote for so many people seems to be, "Demand that other people be the change you want to see in the world."

@@moneybuas4942 He can't change the laws by himself, but he most definitely *CAN* choose what he does with his wealth. If he honestly believes it should be redistributed he can do that without any government tax, approval, intervention, or force. He can just go find people who need help and give them his resources. This is one of my peeves with so many rich and influential people who claim to care about the plight of the "less fortunate." They complain that not enough is being done to help, but they rarely inconvenience themselves to improve the situation for others. Even when they do help, it tends to be done in a way that has no negative impact on their lifestyle. If they lived as middle class people because they were giving everything above that amount to those in poverty to bring them up to middle class then I might be convinced that they actually believe the rhetoric they regurgitate. Until then, it's just pontificating platitudes.
