Fromsoft is saving Bloodborne for a big remaster or remake release. Bloodborne, isn't just lacking a PC release, it was one of the few games that never got a performance patch for PS4pro, so it still runs like it did on base PS4 no matter what console you're playing it on. I'm convinced this is a deliberate choice to make the re-release more impressive when it eventually drops. And btw Demon's Souls was always console exclusive.

I assume it must be a scene drawn from the books, but one scene that does convey Arya in a very dark light, is when she feeds walter frey a pie that she actually baked from the butchered meat of his children. I don't understand how more people don't seem to recognize how completely fucking insane and disgusting that reveals her to have become. I mean, it seems not even the show runners recognized it, since it's not reflected anywhere else, but that scene always struck me as deserving a lot more concern.
@johns162524 күн бұрын
Nah, Walder Frey is still alive in the books and Arya is still in Braavos. I think they just took that "children baked into a pie" meme from Titus or the other 200 stories that contain it. Pretty wicked. And it's not like Walder Frey gives a shit about his own kids anyway.

All three of those movies have stuff like that. Like why does Gordon fake his death in The Dark Knight and why doesn’t he tell his family other than to have their genuine grief convince the audience he’s really dead? I don’t believe for a second Gordon would do that to his family, the reasoning for the whole plan or even what the plan was seems to get brushed over, and then he’s somehow just there to capture the Joker at gunpoint after Batman chased him through the city. Like, where was he? How did that work out? And why does Batman have to take the fall for Dent’s crimes at the end? They could’ve just pinned it on the Joker’s henchmen, but for dramatic reason, Batman just decides to take the fall and “be a hero” by effectively putting his vigilante justice to bed as a perceived villain. Also, what happened to the cop Dent spared? Did she get paid off to keep quiet about Dent? There’s just stuff like that that blemishes an otherwise solid movie. TDKR’s logistical issues were just more obvious.

The way GOT was fumbled is just so sad. They identified 4x9 as where the show stopped being good. I agree and I think season 5/6 didn't engage me in the same way that the previois seasons did. But I think the true point of no return where the story was fucked is 6x10. It was a cool experience but really it resolved way too many storylines and and there wasn't enough time to build up new ones. Too many of the interesting characters were lost as well.

Arcane does mostly follow leagues lore pretty closely, but because it's a prequel show characters aren't at the state they're at in the game yet
@Greatkingrat882 жыл бұрын
I've been told by friends who are into LoL lore that there are several inconsistencies, and that arcane is kind of like its own AU.
@dubwubwubstek2442 жыл бұрын
@@Greatkingrat88 well I wouldn't call it an au, the stories are going in the same direction as they are in the game but they didn't keep every single detail for the sake of narrative and stuff. the proper changes are actually pretty minor, the reason it feels so different is because the show introduces a bunch of new elements we haven't read about. the writers basically set out to fill gaps in the lore by adding new characters worldbuilding etc. not change the lore for their liking. I read back character bios on rewatches and noticed that they did follow some story beats in character bios verbatim.
@Greatkingrat882 жыл бұрын
@@dubwubwubstek244 I honestly can't tell, but my friends told me there are a few major changes. Either way it doesn't matter, arcane is a pretty good show even on its own.
@dubwubwubstek2442 жыл бұрын
@@Greatkingrat88 I guess it's subjective, jinx doesn't really have a backstory in lol yet in arcane she has one. I don't consider that a change of source material, it's just like expanding on source material. no one in league ever goes ahead and calls her "powder" so lore geeks cry and say that arcane is a 10 but alas, it's irrelevant because it's not canonical which is kinda dumb. but so far they've kept the stuff people like about the lore and retconned only bad parts for the better. the geeks are right about it being a 10. gonna keep coping for season 2 to come out early next year
@Greatkingrat882 жыл бұрын
@@dubwubwubstek244 It's more stuff like, Hextech is new in Arcane and in LoL it was already well established, stuff like that. Honestly, it doesn't need to be lore accurate to be good. It could be drastically different and still be great. Just being faithful to the source material is not necessarily good. It can be, but not always. For me Arcane was like... 3/5. The character writing was 10/10, except pretty much everything involving Jayce who was horribly inconsistently written and his entire clique was kind of boring (and they eat up half the screentime), and the actual story was pretty basic, pretty meh. I watched it for Vi, Cait and Jinx; the rest felt kind of meh.

As an enormous fan of Dune who liked the movie, Destiny's criticisms are spot on. Most of the visuals are pretty boring shots and the movie relies a lot on knowledge from the book being projected onto the characters without giving them much time on screen. I think it's fair to make comparisons to source material when appraising adaptation. If a creator didn't want their work to be pulled down by comparisons to older works, then don't adapt a work that already exists. You can't choose to basically borrow the clout and reputation of another property and then get a get-out-of-jail-free-card by having it viewed purely on its own merit. It's not its own thing. It's as derivative as it gets and purposefully uses people's association to the quality of the source-material to get people to engage with it. Secondly, if you acknowledge, as Mauler does, that comparisons to the source material is usually the best way of illustrating the structural issues that arise when you alter parts of a story while keeping other things the same, then ultimately that is basically a tacid acknowledgement of the problem with straying from source material too much in the first place - namely that, more often than not, to adapt is to essentially remove a work from the context it was created to work within only to catapult into a different context where it doesn't; and for every little change you make you further destroy the interconnected tapestry of functional parts that made it good in the first place.
@hian2 жыл бұрын
@Alexander Romero Who's "you guys"? Why would you assume that I don't??
@fab74232 жыл бұрын
I still think it's stupid, a different medium just has to change the source material a lot for the adaption to work in it. I agree with Destiny and MauLer that the adaptation just has to be consistent.
@hian2 жыл бұрын
@@fab7423 That doesn't address the underlying criticism here - if you want your work to be considered as its own thing, then make your own thing. It's conceited and frankly speaking completely daft to think any work can be considered in a vacuum to begin with(It can't. That's not how media engagement works. Audiences bring with them their personal history both as individuals and with art as a whole when they engage with a work), but it becomes even more daft to ask for this if an artist went out of their way to basically, in part, reproduce a work that already exists. Adaptations are inherently not their own thing. That cannot be hand-waved away and clearly no argument was made to even attempt to address this fact. How do you parse the statement "judge X as its own thing" when it literally isn't that? It's just meaningless wordsalad. On top of this, the issue here isn't just one of whether you can "make it work" - obviously you can make adaptation that are "good" in some way in some possible world - the issue is 1.) It's extremely difficult, because again, a good work is a product of leveraging its unique medium of choice and because of hows its disparate parts synergize, so we probably shouldn't encourage or reward attempts that fail the overwhelming majority of the time and, 2.) What's even the point? If you had the writing or creative chops to actually pull off such a feat, how about you contribute to humanity's cultural history by making your own thing rather than adapting someone else's work? Again, it probably shouldn't be encouraged or rewarded. Ultimately, adaptations, unless the source material was trite trash to begin with, are creatively extraneous uphill battles to realize what was 99% of the time better realized as it was expressed the first time around. I don't see any issue with critiquing that - and indeed doing so, usually requires reference to other works - the more similar the better, which makes the original work the prime candidate. Even if the Death Note movie was great, if it completely misses the spirit of the work it was trying to adapt, my critique would still stand - Why oh why then would you even make a Death Note movie at that point? It's as clearly creatively bankrupt as it is callous and opportunistic, and that remains true regardless of how good it is "on its own" by virtue of the undisputable fact that it isn't its own thing.
