Printing off some of the support docs was almost essential for me, such as the abilities list and the map, to keep from constantly flipping back and forth to reference them. Really happy those PDFs are available for it. Great game books and good support.

Hi NefariousKoel, I absolutely agree. A printout of that information is a life saver and a book "spine" saver as well. Good call out there! If I can remember I will have to include that in my next review for Destiny Quest. Thank you!

Thank you for dropping in Patrick, always good to hear from you! I personally love both systems for different reasons. It would be interesting to see a game like Legendary Kingdoms take that approach as well. The second book doesn't seem to have an items like this, but the third book is coming so we shall see ( not holding out a lot of hope there though ). I dont think we will likely see that but I do enjoy the system non-the less for what it does offer. I think it does a better job of world exploration in exchange. I am definitely happy to have both systems in my library. Destiny Quest is another series that I would have loved to have had in my teens and am so thankful to have now that I have matured....( a little ;) ). I saw you had mentioned Heroes of Urowen in the group and I really would like to get my hands on that. Thank you for bringing that to my attention as well!

coming from an ex crowdfunder, I gotta say the most important factor is how well the author actually can write. Aside from a few misprints/typos the writing is superb. Comparing his skill to the tripe of kickstarter garbage you'll want to sell off that crap asap and rightly so. It's so obvious - game dev wants to write a story book but can't write. Not the case with DQ. 8:50 it's a bit more subtle than you suggest. You can redo side quest x when you die, but you cannot redo x after you complete x. Normally encounters are (diablo like) a breeze, and then a boss comes along decimating you. In my case it was some kind of ant queen in DQ2. The book heavily penalizes you if you don't upgrade your initiative bonus (aka speed), so next time above all else I will solely focus on speed. However, some loot is just soo alluring to just equip (lowering speed), and that's the charm of it - you're not allowed to redo this sidequest. You can restart, iron man style, and why not. I have nothing against replaying games. 14:20 they are hard to review, because the story is in the Theater of the Mind. I tried to convey it in youtube videos but it didn't really work well (youtube "246. Destiny Quest - The Heart of Fire & Raiders of Dune Sea - overview"). Might be of interest that I made a list of all the DQ2 items, link in description.

Hey Kosteri, Sorry for the delayed reply. I am obviously not the best with grammar, so I don't catch things that others may. I thought his work was pretty good and better than many of the older books. I would have loved to have had this when I was younger. I am sure you are not likely in disagreement there. In regards to iron man style, I have seen people go both ways on that, and even in between. I agree, restart, or don't, it is the owner of the book that will dictate the fun that they can get out of it. It sounds like we are on the same, or a similar, page.

Would you suggest starting with the new book or the original starting book? Edit I see you covered this near the end of the video and it seems like you lean to starting with this one. (As does the author ) so that pretty much answered my question but I’d still like to hear if you had more thoughts

Currently it is recommended that you start with Book 4 (Raiders of Dune Sea), however, I still feel like Books 1-2-3 are a very worthwhile journey, book 1 is the worst of the series, but it's not a bad gamebook (you should focus on speed there though). My suggestion, get Book 1, if you don't like it, go to Book 4. You can go to Book 2 (which is amazing), but that trilogy is best played in sequence. You don't play the same hero, but their stories are connected, which makes for a really enjoyable journey.

I got frustrated with “The Legion of Shadow” around Act 2. My character was simply not powerful enough to defeat any more of the opponents and there were very few if any opportunities to improve his stats. I was stuck and it was very disappointing...
@adventuresinsolitaire Жыл бұрын
Hi Brennan, sorry for the delayed reply. I had a similar experience in the earlier two books. I then realized that ANY time that I had the opportunity to increase my "speed" I had to take it. Speed is the most important value. The other statistics are important but they do not hold near the sway over life and death that speed does. Once I focused on that it seemed to clear up most of my combat issues.
@rober4 Жыл бұрын
Just ignore initiative throw and take turns with your enemy to attack. Speed was a bad decision in the first game

Please stop calling every gamebook "C.Y.O.A." That is a trademark and it just sounds stupid. Just call them gamebooks.
