I took out as much as I could with a shovel than covered it with a heavy duty plastic that is black on one side and white on the other side. I than made garden beds on top. There are still a few coming up on the edge of the plastic but I keep pulling them up with the shovel. They are almost all gone. Mind you they are eatable. Good luck!

1)The ultimate date for spraying Knotweed is on September 15, after the bees are done pollinating. 2) Use 2 ounces Glyphosate and one ounce of a sticker per gallon. 3) Tighten your nozzle to more than a mist (depending on distance away from the plant)and cover every inch of each plant, first the stem, then leaves and undersides of leaves too if at all possible. 4) The silver bullet to eradicating knotweed is this... when you are done thoroughly spraying... wait for the herbicide to be totally absorbed/dry and spray it all over again one more time! After only having 10 percent eradication of the knotweed clumps I treated year after year (for 10 years)... I finally used the double spray in one day technique and found 90% eradication the following season.

I didn't have the same problem in scale, but I cut the weed to about 6 inches high, as you say it's like bamboo meaning that it's not hollow like a pipe, so penetrate that with a thin rod where needed.... now you can fill the 6 inch high hollow stumps with your weed killer of choice and it's a way of getting a lot of ammo into that root system that drains in. As you say it has to be a sustained attack . Good luck

I have taken to the mowing approach and frost seeding clover two weeks after I produced the video. I did spray some clumped areas after I cut it. Some of it turned black after being sprayed while new growth is struggling to grow vigorously. Its really hard to mow the raised areas without busting up your mower blade. I don't have the option to choke it out necessarily. I want to get the native plants back to some extent. I know mowing is the most effective way so far. It's war with this stuff!

I have had glyphosate down my back all day and I don't have cancer. RoundUp may cause cancer if you drink it straight from the jug.

Trust me, the roots still live. It is just hiding out down there until it thinks you aren't looking.

Where we have japanese knotweed in my area you can see the expanse of it runs through disturbed eroded soil areas. But when the area becomes more complex with other strong plants ie tansy goldenrod milkweed and joe pye weed it becomes strangulated and confined in a small space it goes to seed and does not spread and the seed does not sprout because it needs a cleared disturbed area to grow in digging it up spraying it with herbicide makes it spread faster and faster. The seeds can stay dormant for 100 years it has extreme viability.my suggestion is to cut the shoots and eclude it with heavy amounts of cardboard then poor compost over top or stab holes in areas that you can put food into. I know this may seem like a just as bad plant but sunchokes in a sunnier position can compete with knot weed soo eclusion then planting sunchoke tubers will allow sunchoke to take over which are an invasive native plant. And at least you can clear it for deer to bed and deer eat it. Then soon adding other plants that can choke out the area like grapes and thornless blackberry apios and other fast spreaders like clover and vetch will help make it to complex for knot weed.

Don’t spray it while it is young. you have to let it get big befors you spray it. You will not get rid of it by cutting and spraying.

We have tried Round-up in my backyard a few years. The plant just kinda wilter away but then comes back again. Whats worked for me the best is to use tarp to choke it out of sunlight in the spring when it usually liked to sprout. Then come in and plant something on top of it and just keep picking them off. I heard it wasn't an option but sowing grass and just keep mowing is the best way to keep it at bay, IMHO.

Japanese knot weed is the most abundant source of resveratrol in the world. I love my Japanese knot weed it’s the most persistent determined plant I’ve ever seen. It’s actually fascinating to watch all at stage as it does more than most people I know
