I don't like SSDs because they struggle with pathfinding so badly. I was actually able to beat an SSD with an Imperial II-Class (The small frigate) and a Tartan Patrol Cruiser by simply circling around and shooting at it from the back. There was a Vigil as well...but it made the mistake of flying in front of the SSD. The Tartan was able to get rid of the SSDs fighters and bombers while my little space station kept spamming it's own. It took maybe 30 mins, but I defeated the SSD (which was also a hero) with only the loss of a Vigil. They were a patrol group that I left behind while the main fleet pushed forward. I Didn't expect a lone SSD to suddenly drop in and say hello, but it got stuck trying to go around a single bend, the SSD has a blind spot in the rear, so by keeping just out of range and with their weapon boosting abilities, they were able to win a major victory. Would have lost the entire patrol fleet if it was on a more open map.

Bellators are the way to go! Bellators with support VSD's are ideal. Far more flexible and cheaper than executors and two can easily take an executor. With Crimson VSDs they are unstoppable.

If you bought the game on Steam, and you also have the expansion then you can download mods from the workshop. It's fairly easy and you'll find several guides on the net. Ecks is playing with the Thrawn's Revenge mod and the SSD Rampage submod.
