I like the way you were honest with a customer: If I do it, it'll cost an arm and a leg. If you bring a couple bits over, I'll charge you a whole lot less, teach you how to do it yourself and I can sell you the materials you'll need. Excellent customer service and definitely a method in customer retention, not only because of the honesty but also the personalised service and ease of material accessibility. Nicely done mate!

Just a detail, the other day I was watching a documentary on ancient roads where they stated that the most common mistake in reproducing old roads is having the center with grass and less beaten, when in reality and due to animal traction in the middle, that would be the place more beaten and for sure without any grass....
@josearaujo8616

Also another thing that was mentioned was the old roads would have a barrier to prevent cattle on the road to roam around to the fields. Hope it helps

For pre-motor roads, it's worth remembering that they don't tend to have the central avenue of grass and weeds remaining, as the hooves of the draught animals wears it away, whereas the tyres of 20th century vehicles stay on either side of the centre line.
@samrufflecoles
@samrufflecoles 3 жыл бұрын
Watched a video on youtube once, think it was Lindybeige, where he pointed out that the grass strips down the centre of the road aren't very historically accurate as the horses pulling the carts and wagons that left the wheel grooves would have churned it up. The grass strip down the centre of a road is actually a feature of the automobile... This is of course just pedantic. The board looks great.

Hey Luke! I spent the afternoon building a 3ft x Almost 3ft (because I can’t do maths) table that will be the base for a necromunda build, so it was great timing to come back in fairly knackered for a cup of tea while waiting for wood glue to dry to find this video waiting for me to watch! Great work, but I have one tiny nit-pick that will make you hate me... In the napoleonic period, being before the time of motorised vehicles, the dirt roads wouldn't have grass tufts in middle because that's where the horse would walk... Don't worry, I'll lock myself in the history buff cupboard now.

Records show that swedish (scania) farmers in the same period had on average 7 horses and foals, none had fewer than 2. While the number of wagons averaged at 4,5 in the same period, but only one or two were ever specified as transport wagons. More horses, more cargo or same amount of cargo at greater speed. I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just saying that roads like that could very well exist during that period.
