Great progress though the gardening work were a bit sad to see as a gardener. That area was definatley not shrubs they were beautiful flowering plants and bushes that someone had done over many years. They might not be flowering now but they certainly does in the spring and summer. Saw some dahlias, peonies, lily, Agapantus, caprifols and more. I hope you at least looked up some of the plants and planted them somewhere else.

Great to see you getting your house sorted out, can’t say I’m impressed with the amount of waste you are creating when so much could have gone to salvage I.e. the glass wood etc. and you could probably have saved on a couple of skips as well.

Those windows are old and not worth salvaging. The double glazing in them was most likely in need of replacement too
@geoffcapper5025

@@Wolfmancrawley It's obviously a completely different worldview. Re-use for houses is only one of many options for salvage, and just because you can't see a use doesn't mean no-one else would. I've restored much worse looking things, and good panes of glass (as one example) are great for cold frames and glass houses. He destroyed four or five perfectly serviceable pieces of glass for no good reason.

remodeling a house like that is an ass-ton of work as is. It would take three times as much to disassemble everything neatly, add on top of that the work of advertising it online,, storing it until someone comes to get it, and then the hassle of finding enough people to get rid of every single thing! I dont think its reasonable to expect someone to do all that when he already has so much work to do.

After being a Glaziers mate for all of 3 weeks, it's incredible what punishment old windows can take... but then also not take. I've seen an aglet (metal bit on your shoe lace) shatter a window as someone walked by it, and I've seen a 4lb hammer bounce off one. From the same house. Nutty.

The hearth in an old British house like that was always called a 'Lump' because it would be a huge piece of high density cast concrete or even stone in really old places . A lot of old places had fireplaces in the upper floors too sharing a chimney breast with the lower floor, quite often house owners would get a surprise when removing the lower floor chimney breast to add space, the lump hearth stone from the upper floor would suddenly drop into the room having not been removed when the upper chimney breast was taken out some time before, a whole half a ton of it.

In the US we either have city water, which uses a city tank stored high up near a neighborhood, or well water, which just has an insulated metal tank stored in a pump house to act as a buffer for high demand of cold water. Then we have a water heater which stores hot water. I remember a different youtuber from the UK make a video on the history of why hot and cold faucets are separated in the UK and not in the US. In the UK hot water from the storage tanks used to be non potable sources, like alec mentions, and should not be mixed with cold. Now in the city in UK where both are safe they are kept separate out of habit and general distrust. In the US we don't have this distrust of mixed faucets since we don't have a history of questionable hot water storage so there are almost no separated hot and cold water faucets.

They're cold water storage tanks which feed the hot water cylinder when some hot is drawn off... There will be one that serves the central heating system that's separate to those that feed the hot water. ..

We use the bottom to purified drinking water. treatment plant. first stored in reservoirs. in short we do not, it’s al taken care. We even drink hot or cold water directly from the tap.

@@artor9175 Hmm, hmmm.Not really. Uncomfortable, dangerous and unuseable stuff is another story. That fireplace may be in that category for a couple of reasons - first and foremost that open fires are almost useless at actually heating, most of the heat gets drawn up the stack with the bypass air you need to permit to ensure proper removal of flue gas. It's very unsanitary. That's why they still run two taps to keep the horrible Hot water poison from mixing with the regular mains water. You never drink or cook from the hot water. To be honest though, The water tanks on the roofs in new york are as or more terrifying. Instead of dead bats you have Jimmy Hoffa rotting in your water.
