Interresting, and many good points, but "Tire Carrier Testamatic 3000" is a flawded test. The direction of the load (weight) is incorrect.

It actually is the best test because important factor is not the load of the tire vertically. It is the rotational weight when the door is closed that causes issues (on doors splitting).

It's crazy to me how so many people and companies don't understand simple engineering, loading, and mechanics... Owl does.

It's crazy that you expect everyone to understand it.

Well, if you’re designing a product and selling it to people, you most certainly better understand design, physics and basic engineering. You have that responsibility to the consumer and the public at large.

If you think aluminum is hard to work with, remember that folks who are only concerned with weight and strength want titanium. Which eats your tools alive.

Titanium is horrid to work with!

Great video! Just got home from Rohnert Park and Novato location! Got our van compass suspension upgrade and bought a large expedition box.

Nice products John👍🏾👍🏾, saving some money and looking at the tire carrier to purchase in the coming months. Thanks for the video.

Man I’ve looked into so many options to get a tire carrier and a box carrier on my back doors because it’s really hard to justify 5k on the back doors.. especially when I have other parts of my build to finish. . Also not all sprinter builders have piles of disposable income to throw at them.. but after a lot of research I’ve always decided to just wait until I can justify the expense, because I feel that the owl products are elite. So I’ll finish off the other things on the punch list but eventually i know i’ll have to cough up the money to have the best products. My 2021 4x4 was my dream vehicle for years and I have to protect my investment 🤝🏽

Exactly what I was thinking, In front of all that weight. And add the and I thought I even hear flip flops 😅

Luckily, the tire rack is not mounted in that orientation. This test is pointless and proves nothing. Mount it up properly and try again!
@owloffroadАй бұрын
Then you don’t understand the forces involved. The vertical load is unimportant because it is easily handled by almost any design. This is why other carriers crack doors. The important factor is the rotational force into the third mounting mount (the door) when the door is closed. This is the exact force direction illustrated in the video.

@@owloffroad unless you’re being rear ended. When would the force you applied be realistic? You’re using leverage on a dynamic plane the object wasn’t designed to be used in… I’m all for testing but this is farce.
