How to marry the Russian wish for Eurasian security, mistrust of negotiations and admission that ultimately there must be an agreement? Well, while Trump argues his point towards no more expansion of Nato with the EU, AFRF continues its relentless progress westward. By the time the West is in agreement (if it ever comes to it), Rus army is to the west of Dnepr.

I personally feel that the Russians will stop along the DNieper, taking all of eastern Ukraine. Extending to Odessa in the south, because of its historical significance to Russia and as a base to attack Russia from. Potentially linking to Transnistria. It pushed NATO from the Russian border, knowing western Ukraine would join NATO. And liberates the ethnic Russian areas.

As an American I never thought I'd say this, but I admire the Russian president and I'm embarrassed by my own. Syria was a created entity out of the greater Ottoman Empire back in 1920, the state finally emerged as an independent state back in 1946. There is no Syria any more, there is an ISIS/Al Qaeda/HTS/ al Nusra /Muslim Brotherhood sector, a Kurdish sector, and a Turkish sector. The Israelis are now taking land (much of which is occupied by Druze) to protect themselves from at least two of these various groups. The Druze fear ISIS/HTS more than they fear the Israelis, in fact the Druze in Israel get on very well with the Jewish people.

Zelensky didn't try to prevent the conflict through diplomacy because he lacks honor and integrity. In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas. If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbas would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy. Zelensky, Poroshenko, Merkel and Hollande admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements. Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time. Russia's national security was compromised once NATO began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining NATO was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns. 20th September, 2021: Ukraine launched military drills with US and NATO. NATO is not a defensive alliance. NATO illegally bombed Yugoslavia (a direct violation of the U.N. Charter). We should never forget what they did to Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq etc. Who blew up the pipeline causing an environmental disaster? Zelensky banned all opposition and arrested a leading priest. Zelensky tried to invoke article 5 under false pretenses. Remember the incident in Poland. Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. Poroshenko said, “Our children will go to schools and kindergartens-theirs will hide in the basements”. Russians will never forget the 2014 Odessa massacre. The whole world needs to know about it. Why was Denis Kireev eliminated? He was a member of Ukraine's negotiating team during the peace negotiations. He wanted to help his country. Ukraine has a hit list. They target artists, journalists and ordinary citizens. Hundreds of children are on this list. 13 year old Faina Savenkova was placed on this list. Pink Floyd's Roger Waters is on this list. Jimmy Dore (American stand-up comedian, podcaster) and Aaron Maté (Canadian writer and journalist) are on this list. There is evidence that Ukrainian troops have been indiscriminately shelling civilians in Donbas (they used petal mines and targeted areas where there was no military presence). The azov troops trapped in the azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present. Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but azov would not allow the civilians to leave. Ukraine has committed many acts of terrorism (car bombs and other forms of assassination). Darya Dugina (journalist) R.I.P. The first terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed the truck driver and the individuals in the adjacent car (innocent civilian victims). The second terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed two parents and severely injured their young daughter. I have done a lot of research and it took me a long time to write this comment. I have stated a lot of facts and I have given my honest opinion. I have provided a brief summary of events that took place. In order to explain this whole situation in great detail, a book would need to be written. Hopefully someone will write an UNBIASED book, stating facts and allowing the readers to form their own judgments. Everything I said can be fact checked and verified.

If my info is correct, Russia has a strong foot in Afghanistan now, and is about to have a strong foot in Libya. Russia did the same in South-Africa, they helped ANC and Mandela topple the apartheid and now South-Africa is for ever grateful to Russia and will always be a strong Ally. Russia is going to help Afghanistan reconstruct and they will be eternally grateful, same thing will happen in Libya. This is long-term geopolitics. Russia will reap the benefits of this in 30 years. and one day I believe they will be back in Syria. This isolates West step by step and grows Russian influence in the world. Everywhere US goes in and creates chaos, mayhem and death and destruction they come in and rescue and repair. This is how you make strong longstanding friendships and partnerships.

The key point is that you should be careful for what you wish for. As pointed out in my course, if the US were smart we would be approaching all of these problems much differently. It is often the case that in the long run it’s better to have stable governments with both viable economies and a stable satisfied body politic rather than a situation in which there is instability. Instability tends to lead to strife. All of this goes along with the basic notion that nastiness tends to beget more nastiness and niceness tends to beget more niceness. The fact that the US has allowed the (Israeli) tail to wag the (US) dog will most likely prove to be a mistake. They, the Israelis, are masters at creating nastiness and this will most likely prove to be self defeating in the long run. (The most succinct way to put it is that those who were once bullied are now the bullies). As has been pointed out previously, given the fact that the US is so powerful and geographically isolated it hasn’t had to pay for its mistakes. But in the long run, we’ll most likely all end up paying for these short sighted, foolish policies. It’s my contention that if the right leadership were able to convey a common sense message directly to the American people they might have a shot at circumventing the special interest groups whose interests aren’t aligned with what’s in the long term interest of the American citizenry and there could be a break in the dam. Effective, strong Leadership is the operative word. It’s the only thing that could remedy the overall situation we’re headed towards and my “course” explains how best to try to accomplish that important task. It’s a multifaceted problem which requires both a comprehensive analysis and multifaceted solution.

If Syria was an artificial construction of the west, so were Lebanon and Iraq. I'm afraid we are going to see a redrawing of the map of Middle East. Perhaps, a Kurdish state of some dimension to keep succeeding states of Iraq and Syria in check and to rein in a brilligant Turkey in check. Turkey is punching above it's weight and is unnecessarily stretching itself all across the Middle East and North Africa. Further, keep an eye on Central Asia for we are going to see interesting times there!

Perhaps he will eventually similarly decide that military/armed conflict between "the West" and "the East" would be similarly undesirable and quite unnecessary. (That would be great, imo.) Cheers, Merry Christmas, peace, love and God bless

He never said that US China conflict is inevitable. He said there would be "intense security competition" and that "US will try to contain/roll back China" this does not mean a hot war needs to happen.

@xbandosx1 ok, I stand corrected then. I recalled statements from Jeffry Sachs about how he couldn't seem to persuade John on this "inevitable clash" but I guess I conflated actual armed conflict with "an intense security competition", which, when I had heard some of his presentations, seemed to involve significant preparation for (potential) armed conflict. I guess the basic idea is to build up so much military power that the other side will back down, and therefore conflict can be avoided, or something like that. Cheers

No… you were right the first time. This requires you watch Mearsheimer interviews and listen to his own words more. Don’t listen to others nor the guys replying to you. Or me but watch mmmore older interviews and decide your self

Iraqi PMF believe that the media played a huge role in the fall of Assad regime, like not solely responsible played a huge part maybe 80%, and it was accompanied by other tactics like cloning officer voices using AI to confuse the units, among other things

What? No more night parties while people are being slaughtered in the SW? This war needs to end and end now.

Targets in Kiev, not the whole thing. Commanf centres and a couple of missile factories and research and design facilities.

US/ Israel will not just maintain the chaos in former Syria but export it - a) into Iraq to cause a failed state on Iran's borders; and b) into Egypt so that the insecurity would force the Saudis and Gulf states back into the orbit of the US. (So what if Iraq & Egypt are US clients ??!) Middle East insecurity also undermines the prospects for BRICS-aligned economics. Too bad the professor wasn't asked about this.

This was a fascinating discussion which brought up many nuances I had never thought of before. However, one dynamic seemed to be ignored and that is even beyond the issues between the US and Russia their is an even larger conflict between the elites or deep states in all countries and their patriotic bulwark. The idea that countries must use diplomacy and war as a means of keeping countries divided is an elite idea. If the war between the deep state and patriots over the world can be won the US and Russia can become fast friends, and the same is true with China, Iran, all countries. Mankind can become united and can maintain their wonderful aspects of their cultures, while flourishing and prospering and unite with their fellows to conquer the starts. Short of that earth will continue its situation as an anarchy of nations armed with nuclear weapons which does not fare well for how humanity ends up in the history of evolution.

A danger for Russia is that with the ethnic Russian areas agreed upon as part of Russia. The remaining areas of Ukraine, if there are elections, will tend to vote to power Russia-hostile candidates. Recall that an aim of Minsk was to enfranchise the Donbas people. In part to ensure Ukrainian presidents like Yanukovych, who favored neutrality, returned to power. With an electoral base among the Russian speakers in Donbas. Why Putin needs strong oversight of political events in Kiev in any settlement.

Western Ukraine won’t be difficult to pacify by Russia - they can push the population west into Poland. You’d be surprised how many will self relocate if under Russian control from Livov.

Хочется спросить, Джон, а зачем России замораживать конфликт на Украине? Хоть одна причина.

Indeed. Freezing the conflict would be incredibly destructive. But as luck would have it, it takes two to tango, no matter the tune.

The money from other company's to NATO is good for Lockheed Martin (Blackrock), so Amerika does not want to stop NATO because it is a money maker. The war with Russia is done by NATO wich America wanted. If EU works together with Russia they have cheap energy and technology, so it would be a competition with Amerika, so Amerika does not want that..
