One thing most fans agree about is that we are all both inspired by and jealous of their friendship they are truly ridiculously close and refer to each other as closer than family. Their authenticity is unique (to kpop especially) the fact they have taken huge political risks to make songs that risk political blacklisting (a much more serious issue in Korea under the previous corrupt administration, even tithe president did get impeached). The records they have broken in the last year are even more impressive than the ones listed in the video.

My family growing up was the same, any issues that came up or anything that required our parents permission or approval was always discussed in private by our parents and then the decision was relayed for us, it had a huge affect on my siblings and I’s ability to address interpersonal conflict in our adult lives and is something I’m constantly working on with my work mentor as the thought of potential conflict gives me a lot of anxiety even if it is something that I’ve already dealt with. I’m from a Western European background though Canadian by birth and it’s been a big thing in my family that we have a tough time being completely open and honest with each other in person, we are more likely to ‘bottle it up’ versus working on our concerns. My sister and I are both in our mid 20’s now and both started following BTS together and while we were already starting to get better at communication as adults, seeing how honest and vulnerable BTS members are with each other has really helped our progress in sharing our emotions and feelings more often and more openly, at least with each other and has really brought us closer together. Thanks for sharing about your family, just wanted to share as well as it resonated with me.

If you are liking the more hip-hop oriented music, they do have that smattered across their albums and discography of course- but a good place to start would be the rapline's mixtapes (Agust D and D-2 from SUGA, Hope World from j-hope, and RM and mono. from RM) as well as their early work like the school trilogy (2 Cool 4 Skool, O!RUL8,2? and Skool Luv Affair) and their first studio album, Dark & Wild. Their music is best digested as an album start-to-end because they design their storytelling and messaging with that intent.

There are a number of intro to BTS videos that are good to check out because they all put together the picture from different takes and delivery of the information.
@coomacp91942 жыл бұрын
Yes I totally agree with this. I mean everyone loves Rise of Bangtan documentary, but as for the other videos which I refer to more as being the Intros, we all have our favourites /preferences but you can definetly benefit from watching them all as they all offer something different and extra to what the others do. Personally I love This is BTS by xCeleste as an initial group Intro, then Intro to the 7 by Ida S to get to know the facts and whose who of the members. The Asian Theory video I think is also great as it does give you more history on the formation of the group, but is a bit more commercial (though very well put together and presented). I think that ones best to watch later after Ida S and maybe watching more songs/ MV's. It focusses more on group achievements, stat's / figures for awards but is not as personal as Ida S's in my opinion in getting to know them as individuals. To me it has more group song /MV spoilers. Ida S does have some clips as well of course, but given they are only 10 seconds each at most and focus on the individual members part, I don't think it's enough to spoil the song - gives a good teaser of what to look forward to and understanding of what they've all got to offer. And we've got the Sugar and Spice Intro which though is more outdated / incorrect info it offers some great real and funny clips showing their personalities which I think is why a lot of people love it. Then weve got the extra videos like hardships etc. ARMYS really provide a lot of great content. 💜 😁

That video you mentioned about the person who was supposed to be in BTS but didn’t make the cut was on Vice tv and i recently saw it too. I felt so bad but he seemed so understanding and the other guy he met up with at the end said “if i was part of the group they wouldn’t be as famous” was so gracious. I really appreciated that they weren’t bitter. I hope at some point they get to hang out again with the members of BTS and talk about the old times that they missed. It seems like they were close at the time. Apparently there were about 30 guys that were Bighit trainees and kept coming in and then being cut. In the end it were these 7 members left…and now they’re legends.

(2013) - dissing the education system School of Tears (2013) - pre-debut song, adaptation of Kendrick Lamar's Swimming Pools, about school bullying Baepsae/Sliver Spoon (2015) - about class system/millennial struggle Am I Wrong (2016) - released at a very politically unstable time, dissing the the government at the time (many artists were blacklisted then, it was very risky) all solo mixtapes as of now: RM (2015) - RM Agust D (2016) - Agust D Hope World (2018) - J-Hope Mono (2018) - RM D-2 (2020) - Agust D

It’s funny that you said that you don’t know Jungkook that well, because it’s the opposite for me. Jungkook is the first member I noticed because he’s the main vocalist of BTS (he is a subrapper too). He almost always starts every BTS song and singing the chorus. He is also always centered in terms of choreography. Most of the time, he has the most line in BTS songs because he’s the most stable in terms of vocals. As RM said, Jungkook has many roles in BTS. That’s why when he’s sick, they have a hard time making the performance look balance in a way. If you want to listen to Jungkook solo songs, I highly recommend starting with ‘Euphoria.’ 😊

I absolutely love that BTS created this album. In fact, I read an article recently about Graduate Psychology students doing their doctorate on Map of The Soul Persona, and Map of the Soul 7. If I was doing my doctorate now I would definitely use this approach. BTS lyrics hit so deep and touch on all the insecurities we may have about ourselves. Their music is healing.

One thing that I love about watching people slowly become a part of ARMY or a friend to ARMY (like yourself) is how people first start enjoying the music, then become curious about the band members themselves and then once they've learned a bit about the boys there's this sudden spiral of learning and enjoyment and this build up of a community to support your journey. And once ARMY starts to support you (or any reactor getting interested in BTS) I notice a small defensiveness for BTS aswell. In a positive way. Like when xCelestx said "-while some people still discredit BTS for being a boyband-" And then you suddenly go "why?!" 💜😂 I'm sure you'll enjoy Map of the Soul. Personally, there are a few songs that are very important to me: First Love, The Last, Spring Day, and 4 O'clock. First Love is written by Suga and he discusses his first love: music (in the form of the piano) and his journey with music. The Last is also by Suga but its on his solo album Agust D; he discusses his journey with his mental health and the struggle of balancing that with his job and fame (note: there is a "censor bleep" purposly recorded into the track. Suicide is still something of a taboo subject in Korea and our of respecr for his culture, he bleeped the line. We dont know what that line originally is, just what the bleep stand for.). Spring Day is a very important song and I would suggest first watching the MV, then a lyric video, and *then* an explanation video. And lastly, 4 O'Clock was written by V as his first attempt at production; RM helped him and collaborated. The result is a very calm and sentimental track that could lull you to sleep.

I'm really loving your reactions to BTS. Thank you for taking the time and learning more about them. I'm curious for when you'll react to a video that deep dive more about each member. 💜

Thank you for your reactions! 😊 I’m excited for your Dynamite reaction with your son. My toddler also loved Dynamite, and is why I got to know BTS. After sleepless night of binge watching their MVs etc, I became ARMY! 😄 Kidding aside, I only became aware of kpop because of BTS. I hope you won’t feel pressured to react to other groups if you’re not yet ready. BTS’s discography is already so vast as it is. 😊

Given your interest in the Jungian influence in their work, have your listened to the podcast Episode 42: Jung's Map of the Soul featuring Dr. Murray Stein? He authored Jung's Map of the Soul (1998) which is a compilation of many of Jung's work, translated into English. In this podcast, he talks about his surprise to learn of a "K-Pop, Boy Band" incorporating that title into an album as well as discussing the lyrics to each of the songs from a Jungian perspective. He also authored Map of the Soul 7: Persona, Shadow & Ego in the World of BTS. So, no, not a mere K-pop, boy band. :)

I think everyone else left nice thoughtful comments on this reaction. I love it and I'm half way through but I'm dying at the MOTS7 reveal because I think your aunt kept the photocard 🤣 Photocards are kind of like baseball cards. They still random ones in the albums and fans collect them. I shamefully waited for 3hrs in LA for the concert photocards booth. But I love them haha

Thank you for the reaction, love your personality and how open you are. I'm glad you are loving your time with BTS. Btw, you pronounced Shinee correctly, they are amazing! truly a clasic(?) xD, I don't know how to put it but they are known as the princes of Kpop. I think you would enjoy their talent, but I understand the feeling of wanting to focus on somehting before starting another new thing. I support way too many groups (including Shinee and BTS, and jpop/tpop groups) and it can be overwhelming 😅😅💜💜.

I’m gonna recommend Aurora’s music again. She’s a Norwegian singer-songwriter and she’s very different, her voice is very beautiful, the way she feels music is very unique. I think you should check her work out ☺️

11:56 you should definitely watch that too! And the 2018 MAMA speech. That was when Jin talked about how they considered disbanding cuz of all the bad things that happened in 2018. Suga wrote the song 'Tear' that year when they were considering on disbanding. And you've already done a really good and a genuine reaction vedio to that. Here's the link to the 2018 MAMA speech vedio with English subtitles. (The subs starts when they start their speech) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIfWaGRml62ehKM

About the age demographics, I think the numbers are different depending on where the numbers come from. A poll in Twitter or Instagram will get you "younger" numbers, a survey on people buying merch will get higher on the 30s/40s and a poll over Facebook or KZbin will get the 40+ wining on a landslide Edited to add: You might need to turn the comments off on your son's reaction if YT decides it can be considered as content aimed to kids. Some more footage of you as Intro/Outro might help you avoid it. About other Korean artists, I would recommend some classics from the hip hop world like Epik High or MFBTY, and from the idols, TXT is my second favorite (they're from the same company as BTS and their production team is really daring)

I think you would enjoy "Ugh!" (rap line) a lot. I also highly suggest that you watch an explain video with it, because there is a lot of idioms and cultural references in it. Thank you for the video💜

You ask why... it's sad but many people don't Wana bother going deeper with bts due to the language barrier, our western view of the group and only looking at them through a shallow lens. For example, my dad knows how much I love bts but he shared his view with me quite bluntly saying they are just another boyband and, they are only in it for the money and they will fall into obscurity. As a fan I've tried to tell him otherwise but he just thinks I'm pushing the group on him and doesn't wanna listen or have an open mind. Saying they look like girls. I've even shown him introduction videos cuz I wanted my parents to at least understand why I liked them even if they don't get into their music. But alas, clearly it didn't work.
@steph75982 жыл бұрын
I feel you on this.. everyone thinks its bc we’re obsessed fans & so our judgment is “irrational”. I’ve tried showing my mom too & she liked the music but going any deeper & she thinks we’re walking into crazy town.

@@steph7598 yup. I had a daughter last June and of course she is the most important person in my life.... however that doesn't mean I'm giving up my boys. I sent my dad a gif of some of the guys during a conversation and he said that's creepy-granted they were doing finger hearts and stuff but I said Why because they are boys and he said no because they look like girls. I didn't want to open the view of toxic masculinity on him but some slipped out saying different cultures have different views on what masculinity should look like. When I tried to defend them he said I was pushing my thoughts and opinions on him and then began to say what I said above....... I truly love my parents and are very close to them but I threatened to hang up on him. Then he proceeded to make a point in asking questions to see who was more important BTS or my daughter( which he later apologized for)......... the conversation escalated quickly. It made me very sad. My mom was trying to make sure I wasn't obsessive over it to the point where I cared more about what was going on with bts than how to raise my daughter. It wasn't a good day. My mom knows my love for them and respects it but isn't a fan. She will listen if I have them playing when they visit and even hummed a bit. The last time they visited I had my universe playing and my dad was bopping to it holding my daughter. So that made me happy. My sister knows it's a fact about me and accepts it but isn't a fan herself. I have friends and family that know my feelings towards the group and will buy me gifts and send me messages sometimes related to them but they aren't hard-core And my husband knows as well and says he is a fan and cares..,....... but he didn't know big hit was their company he thought they were apart of sm entertainment.... so there is that. Sorry this is so long lol. Venting

@@arisol1011 i can totally understand what you want to say..we all go through this..we just want them to genuinely try to understand why we love & admire these 7 young artists.. i don't want to force them to like BTS's music, atleast they can try to understand & respect what i like, & why i like it.. that's all..but it's not easy in this world of closed minded ppl with their head filled with stereotypes & toxic masculinity.. maybe someday they will realise..we can just hope
