It is difficult to detach from material attachments because we are ignorant of the fact that we are not this body but soul. With this knowledge, if we practice krishna consciousness viz hearing, chanting etc, then automatically we detach from material things and get attached to Krishna.

he's wrong to say only our spiritual self has a relationship to the Divine, our bodies do too. We are soul and body, it's wrong to divide those 2 things too much. Our mortal body will decay but at the Last Day our soul will be re-united to our body which will be an immortal 'spiritulised' body.

Better understood in diluted form than not understanding at all in original form. There is a reason why everyone reads ramcharitmanas written by Tulsidas rather than Valmiki who wrote it in pure sanskrit. Majority of Indians can't read and understand sankrit, it has become esoteric.

With all due respect... a good presentation on the general principles. But ... the young man from the audience asked a question : Do we forget about Emotions ? And he didn't get a clear answer. Arjun asked Krishna the same, when he put down his Gandiva .. and he was referring to his uncle and teacher, Bhishma and Drona.. which he loved dearly. Krishna told him to go ahead and kill them, ignoring his feelings and relation, because his dharma had priority... The question is, how can we live in a world where there is such kind of detachment? Are we supposed to live like selfish robots, only caring about our atma? This is a point of great contradiction in the Gita, Ethics vs Dharma.

The psychology of the Gita is for existential anxiety reduction through cognitive control of emotions. However your presentation was more on problems facing the Indian culture and how it is falling apart. This is just an observation. I think a culture of over 5000 years will be able to overcome every negative influence because it has sustained the pressure of time. Bhagavad-Gita can be interpreted as a positive psychology also. This aspect was missing from the presentation. Bit disorganised. Lacked structure. Hard to differentiate between what is part of the Gita psychology or your personal opinion.

Can you be brilliant and wrong? Apparently, yes! Coming from a Christian Pastoral Service, his motives are immediately suspect. What he is attempting to show is that they (the Pastoral Service) have a far more fine grained understanding of the concept of detachment in the Bhagavad Gita. They don't. Besides, you cannot view detachment as an isolated concept as it is integrated and so woven into the fabric of culture, you cannot isolate parts of it and yet continue to be largely disrespectful of the culture and tradition to which it belongs. I must admit that I'm just 12 minutes into what appears to be a 2 hour long video, and I needed this long break already. Maybe it gets better!

Not all Americans subscribe to the American grand narrative or agree with what US establishment is doing. You will be surprised how many of them are really dharmic and knowledgeable about Vedic dharma. Check out for eg Edward Bryant who teaches at Rutgars. He is very knowledgeable in Bhagwath Geetha, Patanjali's Yogasutra among others.
