My friends, tonight we're taking a paintbrush to this diorama. We'll focus on detail painting, pin washes and some terrain rendering using oils, enamels and acrylics.

Great diorama, my great grandfather was on the Somme September 1916 when he first saw the tanks go into battle. Even he said he'd rather take his chances as a soldier than be in one of those things.

Stunning amount of detail. This is going to be another masterpiece. You were talking about how you're going to be tackling the water as part of the next video. Something I've seen in machines abandoned in mud & water, but have never seen in model making id the rainbow oil sheen on the water surface from where petrol/gasoline has leaked into it. Have you ever done such a thing? It would be really interesting to see how you'd achieve that.

Looking very dank and dreary, just what you were aiming for. The absence of sharp false shadows and relatively even coloring on top surfaces and sides implies overcast weather. Makes me want to pull up the collar of my heavy overcoat just looking at it. I have a small suggestion- IIRC WWI tanks wouldn't have lived long enough, specifically wouldn't have spent long enough with engines running, to bake all the paint off their mufflers and exhausts. Hence the many-colored rust approach will work, just not the whole exhaust system. But then as you've said realism has to be balanced with artistic expression.

Fairly certain British tanks in WW1 were painted with a similar Olive Drab to their WW2 and even modern tank. It is only slightly more green than brown, but under certain lighting it can look brown

Loving seeing this develop! Would be great I think, to add some smoke / fire damage above / around the shell holes, vision slits and hatches like it's had an internal fire after getting stuck. Just an idea, as currently the damage looks quite "mechanical" and not like it's had any effect?
