It was a practice of Chrysler to put a layer of about 1.5" thick fiberglass insulation wrapped in heavy duty aluminum foil underneath the center of the intake manifold and above the metal gasket to help prevent heat soak of the carburetor. It is more of an issue these days with the high alcohol unleaded fuel and a thoroughly heated up engine. It is another way to help avoid vapor lock.

The inner valve spring is for damping harmonics. I found that out from the machinist that refreshed my block today

I found that adding dab of blue lock tight on the valve cover bolts helps to keep them from getting loose. The ones closet to the exhaust will be the ones that come loose first due to heat.

LOL! Now the engine is too good for the car! I always marvel at the pure simplicity and efficient design of the American pushrod engine. Yea, its thirsty and doesn't put out a lot of power for its size, but when that engine was designed, nobody cared about MPG and the power was more than the brakes and suspension could handle!
@SortedGeorgeGarage Жыл бұрын
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yeah that sounds about right! As you say they're simple. I was so nervous about the tolerances but they were great! Just got to put it in and run it up now 😁😁

The center out is correct
@SortedGeorgeGarage Жыл бұрын
Are you referring to tightening the caps from centre outwards? If so then thankyou 😃👍🏻 Some people say yes, some say it doesn't matter. I thought it would, just like tightening down heads 👍🏻

Did you soak the lifters? I hear it done two ways. Soak them over night or dry. What were you told? Thanks for the video. I like it alot.
@SortedGeorgeGarage Жыл бұрын
No Bill I didn't soak them, just put them in and let them fill as they should. HOWEVER!..... I think I have a noisy lifter now, so another video coming very soon on that 👍🏻
