Absolutely @ 12:48. full length M.2 is working on Z10PE-D8 version (may be the same for yours) if you not mind it sticks out und have der clearance. ASUS makes amazing boards for each situations. Correct, the suffix "PA" is a more 24/7 basic system needing more resources rather then faster, more add-in cards but less focus on or no GPU Remote manages w/ it's integrated ASpeed ATS2400 VGA. The "PE" variant adds some high end consumer features or settings including multi GPU SLI + X-Fire & a more modern UEFI BIOS but overclocking is still very limited in these. As for RAM, I think the Z9PA- was the last entry dual on ATX to accept UDIM RDRAM. Even so if I remember, not able to change strep & timings. It's locked to the CPU & most Xeons 20xx don't like or cant do RAM OC. Z9PE-D8 was a last of a unique board that let us do that but ECC only & limited tight timings. The "PE" is better suited for the home user high end workstation for a mix of core count vs clock speed but cost a way bit more. If wanting more clock but good core balance, consider a single Xeon 16xx on a good ASUS Workstation Series. Otherwise, fun builds. (:

Got a workstation based on this mobo for 500 Canadian dollars. 2xE5-2690 v3, 64GB ram, 1000W PSU, and nice case. Updated bios from the USB stick. CPUs get boost up to 3GHz. Got NVME option in bios. Using PCI-E adapter I installed NVME M-key 1TB WD SSD - didn't get it visible in bios so not possible to boot from it. Then I bought nvme extender with a flexible cable, it worked but read speed is 400MB/s only, should be up to 2200MB, WD software says it is connected using a gen2 x1 connection instead gen3 x4, that's why this low speed is present. So far pretty happy, this workstation is a total beast, 24c/48t.

After I started playing the video, I immediately paused it and went to e-bay. The cheapest Z10PA-D8 board I could find is $370 and coming from China. Buying it for 100 euros would have a huge bang for the buck. I will still look around for a cheap dual lga2011-v3 board. I want to put 2x E5-2678 V3 on it and try to get Ryzen 3950 performance for 30% of the money. And btw, thanks for the helpful videos you make. :)

As with all your other reviews, this was another very thorough examination, thanks. However, I don't think you mentioned that you should be able to get around the M.2 2242 SSD form factor limitation on this board using a ribbon cable extender/adapter. They should be pretty cheap (~10-15 euros) and come with essentially no performance impact.

I hate not having sleep S3/4. I use it a lot or Hibernate at night. I’ve never used onboard audio in an A/V workstation in as long as I can remember. Even the legendary P2B-DS had no onboard. I get S1 sleep on my Z8NA so it’s better than none. Full S4 works. After tinkering w/ it I found that the #6 PCI slot is MIO capable of coming from other high end workstation. Which I like since previous MIO slots weren’t PCIe capable

Update: I ended up using the Z10PE-D8 WS / E5-2667-V4 version w/ wider CPU spacing & onboard audio. I came from the Z9PE-D8 WS. Similar, otherwise good board w/ E5-2667-V2. PCIE slot 6 (most upward by RAM) is your MIO audio or PCI switchable. The ASUS MIO card is better then the onboard anyway I thought.

ATRL DOES work for me. Make sure that Energy Performance Tuning is set to "Disabled". That disables the OS from controlling the CPU frequency, which doesn't work well in Win10 without driver, and not at all in Win11. Now my 2x E5-2690's are set to 3.0 Ghz instead of 2.6. It's not max turbo frequency, but better at least.

To get good boot times do two things: 1. Remove the ASMB8/IKVM Chip at the bottom of the board (this cuts the boot time in half). After this change, I would consider the boot time to be almost regular; about 30-40 seconds to OS login screen. 2. (Optional) Make sure you installed your OS in UEFI mode and disable legacy boot in the UEFI menu ("bios").

The default settings for disabling C3 and C6 in the optimised defaults don't seem to be correctly written into the modified BIOS. When I load the defaults I still have to disable those settings manually. Could it be that the BIOS-file needs to be extracted first before deleting the 6f2-patch and adding the ffs-driver?

What model cpu heatsink cooler was used in video? What are some of the biggest heatsinks you can find for these? I'm coming from ASUS Z8NA-D6 with dual Noctua NH-D9DX i4 3U on 2x Xeon X5675 I do like that I can use low timing non ecc, G-Skill 1600 cl7, limited to 24gb or 96g if ecc. My 1600 ecc cl9 did run in my Rampage ii X58 but i wonder if the i7 930X will run in the dual mobo as single cpu?

I don't think your i7 will work in this motherboard as it's other socket, but in general, i7s work in some dual socket motherboard with single CPU configuration. Regarding the cooler, I would say two Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo or another pair of a similar size is probably the maximum you could fit into the motherboard.

hy miyconst, first of all, as usual, great video :) i had a problem with turbo boost (not the turbo unlock, i talk about the turbo boost of every xeon) of my 2630L v3, frequency didn't go over 1.8 ghz also under cinebench or other stress utility... also asus turbo ratio lock didn't work, i wonder if i have to enable some option in the bios.... if i open hwinfo i found the turbo voice marked red, and under cpu i found "turbo capable, but disable"... any hints? my conf is 2x 2630L v3 with 4*8 gigs of ram p.s. i also try to unlock the bios, but nothing changes, cpu always stop at 1.8 ghz

Which motherboard do you use? Search for CPU C6 state in the BIOS and make sure that it's enabled. Also make sure that Intel Turbo Boost Technology is enabled, if there are such settings in the BIOS. There might also be another setting named "Power Technology", this shall be set to either "Energy Efficient" or "Custom", but not "Disabled".

I have this motherboard with two Xeon E5-2630V3. This motherboard is supposed to be equipped with a C612 chipset, but on CPU-Z, it is marked X99. And on the Intel site, it is specified that neither of these two chipsets has PCIe 3.0 technology, yet on the Asus site, this motherboard is equipped with PCIe 3.0 ports. Does anyone have an explanation to this ?

CPU-Z is not always correct and it can mix X99 with C612 chipsets. Regarding the PCI-E 3.0, then both are correct, Intel says that the Chipset does not support PCI-E 3.0, while Asus says that the motherboard supports PCI-E 3.0. The trick here, is that the PCI-E slots are connected straight to the CPU, bypassing the chipset.

In the Asus website it says that the CPU must be 85W or below, and the one you're installing is 105W. How flexible can it be in this matter? I suppose installing two 135W CPUs is maybe too much, isn't it?

It depends on multiple factors, for example how good the cooling is, how often you utilize the CPUs to their 100% limit. If you are not going to stress test the system with 100% usage 24/7, then I would bet that 135 Watt CPUs with decent cooling will be just fine.

I have just received my unit from Rebus Farm and it is unfortunately also completely dead. 2 PCIe Lane Switch chips were completely burning up, beyond 80°C within Seconds as well as another chip from ICS next to the BIOS. I just messaged them and haven't received an answer yet. I hope my CPUs at least survived this, I was stupid enough to test it with all of the ones had. (2698v3 and 2673v3) Now I have to wait for my huanan to arrive

@@Miyconst Rebus Farm has now resolved the issue, i must admit the support i got from them has been great sofar. They sent me a replacement board within a short period of time so i can not really complain. CPUs were unharmed and Turbo Boost unlock on E5-2673v3 worked like a charm on the new board. (3551 Points in R15 using -50mV, 3.1 on all Cores during whole Benchmark) Aparently they all came out of a render farm that has been replaced so maybe a few dead rendernodes were accidentally mixed with working ones. Mistakes happen i guess.

It is definitely possible to undervolt if you use the turbo boost unlock hack with custom EFI drivers. The stock configuration, I didn't test for undervolting, sadly.

I have bought my CPUs on eBay Europe, so I can't say about AliExpress taxes. Also, the taxes are different in different countries. In Sweden, where I live, apart from taxes, I also have to pay a "declaration fee" per each parcel.

It is exactly the same as on any other motherboard, you just have to use external USB programmer to flash the modified BIOS onto the motherboard.

@@rossopatocco You don't have to unsolder it, it's detachable on this motherboard, just remove the BIOS chip from the motherboard, put into the flash programmer, write the BIOS, and put it back in.

It's not good to pack motherboards in plastic. The TVS diodes will help protect it from static damage but those diodes themselves are sacrificial and get damaged over time. All that static electricity from those plastic bags just shortens the life of TVS diodes. If you don't have static conductive bags it's better to take the battery out and wrap it in aluminum foil the battery could burn up if it gets shorted that's why we use static conductive plastics, The board will arrive undamaged from ESD if it's wrapped in foil.

If you know how to solder you might put new TVS diodes. They can only take so much before they give out kind of like a shock absorber on a car and when they go that is when other parts start getting zapped like the southbridge during power surges. It's kind of like replacing any bad electrolytic caps, if you want it to last give it new TVS diodes.

@@Miyconst After bios mood I was able to see max frequency of 3.2Ghz on all cores under open hardware monitor but cpu-z stress test couldn't go over 2.6Ghz. I had to get back to asus bios last release since I couldn't login at os due to freeze ^^|

@@Miyconst ​ I have ASUS Z10PE-D8 WS I tried to remove the microcode but now I have error CODE B7/87 (bios flashback wont work to restore BIOS) have set of two E5-2687W (ES) installed and 2 x 16GB + 2 X 16GB ECC reg mem. The system worked before like 2 years but I think I bricked my BIOS chip. I pulled the bios chip out it showed CODE 00 (no init) put it back in and then after starting the system it hangs on code B7/87. I'm waiting on the replacement BIOS chip (17 euros) but would you be so kind and make a video about how to properly remove microcode (I see you use ES chips) on the same mobo as in this video because I'm 99% sure the BIOS functions are the same Z10PA-D8/Z10PA-D16/Z10PE-D8/Z10PE-D16. Many ppl say its impossible to unlock ES chips but I see you get them running. Subscribed to your channel keep up the good work you have very interesting content :) I would really like to know how to bios mod properly :)

There are a few ES/QS chips with stepping 2, such chips are identical to their final production variants, just named ES/QS. If your CPU has stepping 0 or stepping 1, Turbo Boost Unlock will not work.

I've heard that the usb stick has to be 4GB or less and in FAT (not FAT32). So sorry for wasting your time I was just thinking maybe I can salvage my old bios chip I guess it takes a long time for the new one to arrive due to the "human malfunction"

Hi, It seems that you are unable to flash the UEFI without the using a external USB programmer. There is a nice guide about flashing modified xx.rom to ASUS motherboard. Thread link: linustechtips.com/main/topic/592133-howto-get-nvme-support-on-older-motherboards/ That guide uses afuwinx64.exe, and the major steps are: afuwinx64.exe (original.cap) afuwinx64.exe (modified.rom) /GAN Note the "/GAN" command when flashing the modified ROM You must flash the (original.cap) , or else the 2nd step "flashing the modded rom" would not overwrite the UEFI, even though the CMD output shows otherwise. This method works on my prebuilt CP6230, which has a H61 chipset mobo. Give this method a shot :) Regarding the "memory timings & voltage override" sub-menu not appearing, have you tried setting the sub-menu ACCESS/USE to "USER" in directory "common refcode configuration>intel RC setup>memory configuration" ? Make sure you navigate to submenu's parent directory, and set the corresponding ACCESS/USE to USER. That's how I got my C-state submenu to showup.
