This video is a detailed tour of Train World which is a railway museum in Brussels, Belgium, and the official museum of the National Railway Company of Belgium.

Train World:
Situated in the preserved buildings of Schaerbeek railway station and in a new warehouse style building built to its north. The museum opened in September 2015 with a surface of over 8,000 square meters and 22 locomotives on permanent display. Also inside the museum are 1,200 other train related objects, including an original 19th century railway bridge.
Steam engines:
Belgium’s railway network is the oldest on the European continent. It developed at a furious pace. Both industry and the state played their part and invested in the development of the network and the building of locomotives. Even though nowadays trains are usually powered by electricity, it was the invention of the steam locomotive that revolutionized the whole industry. The way that steam engines work is that they fuel the locomotive by burning combustible material, such as coal, oil and in very seldom cases wood, to heat water in the locomotive's boiler to the point where it becomes gaseous and its volume increases 1,700 times.
The Rail Switch:
Simple single-bladed switches were used on early wooden railways to move wagons between tracks. As iron-railed plateways became more common in the eighteenth century, cast iron components were made to build switches with check rails. In 1797, John Curr described the system that he developed which used a single iron blade, hinged on a vertical pin that was tapered to lie against the plateway. Prior to the widespread availability of electricity, switches at heavily travelled junctions were operated from a signal box constructed near the tracks through an elaborate system of rods and levers.
Giant Trains:
The biggest train in the museum is the Type 12 locomotive which were produced for the Belgian Consortium of Locomotive Construction. The locomotive bodies were fully streamlined except for openings to provide access to the valve gear and the crankshaft. The design included inside cylinders but outside valve gear to reduce oscillation. The class was designed for the fast, relatively light-weight, boat trains on the 124 km journey between Brussels and Ostend. For most of their careers, the type 12s were assigned to Schaerbeek.
Royal Trains:
Even though the royal trains look gorgeous a lot of preventative conservation had to be done in recent years. The trains had been poorly stored for a long time, and because of that the interiors and exteriors had been damaged from the climate, the ventilation, the pollution and the sunlight hitting them for decades. After restoring them and In order to keep them in that condition a sophisticated airing system was put into place via tubes that make sure that the locomotives remain well ventilated and keep a low level of humidity. And I must say that they are beautiful. From the royal coaches that served for King Leopold III and King Baudouin we can see gorgeous carriages that range from dining room coaches, to drawing rooms, private restroom compartments, sleeping coaches, full kitchens and living rooms. Adjacent to the trains are a couple of busts showing members of the royal family which are all very well sculpted. For the final part of the museum there’s a simulation where one can play a short came in which one takes the role of a conductor on a high speed train as well as a couple of full sized front of various types of bullets trains. Truly seeing the difference in design between the early trains of the 19th century and the modern 21st century trains shows how far we have come throughout the centuries.

I also love this museum. I've already been there at least 2 times and it's always nice. And I have to tell that my favorite train is this one on your thumbnail. You don't want to be hurt by a thing like that 😂 Well... never a good idea to be hurt by a train but you see what I mean lol! And you're right, we're very lucky in Belgium because we have the densest train network in the world, it's like almost 4000 km 😅

I knew you would like this museum. I wish I had a better camera for the low lit rooms because I don't think I was able to capture the beauty of all the trains like I wanted. One of my favorite museums in Belgium.

11:10 these hats are the same all around Belgium. But they change with the years. Every function has another hat. For example, a train guard's hat has the opposite colors than a station master

Makes total sense and I love that they put so much detail. Also very useful for people working in the field as they know exactly what that person's position is at the station or train by just looking at the hat.

@@TheDavidNeytsShow yes. They used to be orange but changed to blue in 2020. I like how they still use hats. Dutchbrailways for example doesn't use hats anymore, so I'm happy that we still follow this tradition.
