@HiViNywschannel6 жыл бұрын
Hi buddy!!! Yes thank you :-D ...on all my cartridge reviews, i do align the azimuth correctly as for each cartridge. The Jelco HS-25 headshells are really top value for money, i had noticed, and have been using: lightweight, magnesium-body for resonance deadening effect, and with very slick azimuth adjustment facility. Glad to see you again buddy!!!!! Hope you are doing great!!! Warmest Regards, ~ ian.

A conundrum with my VPI HRX suggested not to use anti skate. I set it up anyway using an old laser disc. Still skates but nothing like it used to. Tone arm is 3d printed carbon fibre 12 inches in length with slight conical taper just to make things more difficult for you. Tone arm pivot also has VTA built in so you can adjust on the fly if needed. Platter and table are perfectly level. Spiked jack screws were installed in the table legs. Spot on!

I am not sure this is the right location to post this, but here goes anyway. This is a review and setup of Nagaoka MP300 cartridge. My cats laid waste of the turntable with tone arm off pivot. Nothing was damaged but I had to realign the whole system. Cartridge was the Kiseki Purple Heart which fortunately had the stylus guard installed. As the Kiseki does not have a replaceable stylus I shopped for something that would sound nearly as good. After 6 months I decided tonight was time for the Nagaoka. My phonostage is a Manley Chinook which required a gain change from 60 to 45db of gain. Manley recommends adding cable capacitance of 90pf for 1m lead and select a capacitance dip that will get you to a desired 120pf or so, 50pf was my closest choice. MP300 was aligned and balanced to 1.53g. Cartridge sounded bright so the added capacitance was removed. Bottom end coupled right in. Played Pink Floyds' Question of Balance. Something was wrong even though sound was balanced and uniform but the sound stage did not feel correct. Sounded like a phase issue. Wiring was per instructions so I reversed the cartridge connection on each channel. BINGO!!! Everything fell into place with a proper soundstage rendering. I think we have a psycho-acoustic thing going on here. The ATTACK sound should come at you, not recede. One other reviewer noticed the same thing with this cartridge. I put Diana Krall "I Dream of You" album on and all was perfection. I fell back in love with the sound and Diana. Hope this helps some of you to fine tune your listening experience. My review of the Nagaoka MP300 is a resounding A1+.

Ian, bowled over by the enthusiasm, detail, rational analysis, honesty and accuracy of your reviews. Not posted on KZbin before but so taken by your terrific contributions to more affordable 'audiophile' ambitions. Despite the obvious difficulties of video reviews that, inevitably, depend on the music reproduction at the viewers end, you've got closer to allowing me to hear and experience differences between components than any other youtube attempt. When done so well, you show that reviews like yours can be much more helpful than magazine reviews. If I were an editor for an audiophile magazine, I'd snap you up in an instant. On top of everything else, you're a terrific character and entertaining. But enough of this praise! I'm now looking to buy a Shiit Mani and, thinking about the MP150 (instead of my previous ambition of a Hana EL!). BTW, if you can comment, I have a goldring 1042 on a modified technics sl1200 (audio origami modified rega rb250 tonearm). Was wondering where you think the 1042 would sit compared to the likes of the MP150? I've always an eye on budget friendly and 'out of the box' solutions, so would appreciate any thoughts you may have. all the best Chris, London.

CJ M Dear Buddy Chris from London🦁🦁🦁🇬🇧 thank you for your kindness and encouragement!!! I am very touched and humbled by your words.... I love the GR1006 and, their previous carts Elan and Elektra. I have yet to purchase the very famous 1042💪😄...and can't wait to get at that as soon as possible. Thank you for your great input, because your message lenda even more credence and importance to the 1042. It will be lined up against the MP-500, 2M Black, etc👋😄... in the meantime, i will purchase a very worthy competitor to the Rega Planar3 at the same $1,000 price point: the MoFi StudioDeck. I need to finish the MP-200 review. There is also the need to work on the shoot-out and reviews of the latest Grado Prestige Black2 and Goldring E1 at the $80 price range😄🎵🎶. Thank you for your time for reading these. Hope to give you some excitement and insight into my schedules. Warmest Regards my friend, heard yesterday from my friend in Norwich that the weather is about 15-18degC🌞and with sun! Enjoy a good spring time Buddy!

Thank you. Very informative. I had a good grip on most of it but I recently bought a turntable with VTA on the fly and have been afraid to play around with it. With the lighter vinyl and the 180 gram stuff. I know you can buy yet another device for ridiculous money but your little trick with the paper with lines on it is brilliant. I also just got a hana mc cartridge and have watched you compare with another model. You make great videos. Keep it up, you have my interest as I want the best sound that I can attain.

My TT is a Technics SL 1900 set up perfectly with a Nagaoke mp 110. Sounds absolutely amazing. Phono pre amp is Tisbury Domino. AE EVO speakers and concertmeister Baso isolation feet on TT and speakers. Concertmeister baso instead of spikes is an amazing tweak. I keep looking at expensive turntables but I'm worried that the expense of going modern would be dissappointing. My old well set up system beats the pants of my mates modern big name set up. Thank you brother. Really enjoy this and learned a lot. Appreciate your generosity in making this very carefully thought out video for us. I may not have all the tools you have yet for this but the principles are very well conveyed to where I can do my best with what I have. Planning on taking the vinyl plunge at the end of next week with either a Pro-Ject 2xpression (Sumiko Bluepoint 2) or a Rega RP6 (Exact). Getting very exited.

Brother, thank you for catching up yet again!!! How have things been? ... so have you decided :-D ? Excited for you too... update along my friend!

I am leaning pretty strongly toward the Pro-ject 2xperience. From what I can tell the cartridge that comes with it will be better than the Rega. Also has full adjustability unlike the Rega which does not have VTA/SRA or azimuth adjustability from what I understand. I know there can be advantages to not having them. I do respect the Rega and think I would like it as well so tough decision. Impossible to really tell which sounds better by reading on line. The 2xperience has a real walnut matte veneer. It would eventually make its way into our living room system (2nd system) where it would be a perfect match for a pair of excellent vintage ADS L520 speakers that also have a beautiful real matte walnut veneer of same color. I do not think I can go wrong either way as they should both give a very good entry level experience with vinyl. Also plan to get the Schiit Mani to start with. Want to keep learning and hopefully do some listening before a substantial phonostage upgrade to something that is better and a good fit. Plan to purchase late next week. Will let you know how it turns out. Your a blessing bro!

Hi - great setup on the Avid turntable, but I noticed at 2:45 your platter is not quite flat and appears a bit warped. Perhaps a manufacturing defect? But all vinyl isn't flat anyways, probably completely inaudible... Please keep the great videos coming... I really enjoy them here in the States! Best...
@HiViNywschannel6 жыл бұрын
Hi Buddy! How are you👋😄!! The platter is spot on flat, machined aluminium. The only issue then was that i had actually accidentally bumped on the platter quite hard during all the filming, and dented slightly the inverted bearing casework. It is an extremely small dent. I had my local Avid great retailer came over to just fit on the highly modular and replaceable case and sapphire bearing within 30minutes and everything was back to perfect since two years ago. Sammy and Eugene are a Father and Son-in-law team that retails Avid in Singapore. They have close contact with Conrad Mas of Avid UK and service thoroughness and response time is top notch from all of them💪😄👍!!! You can see Sammy and Eugene in my latest video where I picked up the Goldring 1042 cartridge! Their store is called Sound Decisions and have been around for more than 20 years.

@@HiViNywschannel I am well Ian thank you, good to know you are also. Things have moved along a little with my system since we last chatted. I went for an Ortofon 2M Black cartridge for my Transcriptors Hydraulic/SME, initially I thought it sounded a little brittle but after fettling and running in all I can say is WOW. As I type this I am awaiting delivery of a new Michell Gyrodec, the great, great, great, great grandson of the Transcriptor's, oh happy day when they are sitting next to each other :). I will use the HRS100mcs arm off my Alphason Sonata, it only had about 200 hours use before the Sonata's PS went to Valhalla, crafty pun there ;).

@@HiViNywschannel Hi, thanks for the reply! I decided I like the look of the Linn Sondek (*the* turntable to have from my youth)! But of course that means a) $$$ and b) figuring out the options. I've put the turntable on the back burner for now. If I'm thinking completely clearly then yes, I probably will end up with a P6 (or 8 or ...?) but for now I'm keeping the Linn flame alive! Heyhey!!! You are going to keep the Linn flame alive!!! Good!! Good!!! to pursue a dream since your youth!!! I understand what that means!!! Hey Ian, I have an Empire 598 I purchased two years ago and added a Denon 103R to it last year. Using it yesterday to digitize my vinyl for VC videos I'm making, I found the audio balance far off (louder on the left side by almost 6db). To think, the past year I've been listening to like this! I'm taking the guess work out of setting turntables up the right way. I'm watching your videos and I just bought Michael Fremer's latest DVD (21st Century Vinyl). Thanks for the work you do; while it's a bit overwhelming for me, it would be even more so if it weren't for tutorials like this. Now I just need to practice, practice, practice. :) Thank you VC brother! -Brad

Very, very helpful video! Thank you so much for going through all of this effort to help us! :) Altough I have to say that the audio could be a bit better, English is not my first language so the "popping" sounds in the audio sometimes made certain words a bit hard to understand. Aside from that, this has to be the most detailed video I have seen on youtube in how to set up a turntable PROFESSIONALLY! You have just earned yourself a new subscriber!

Ian, do you tape down the platter even when using the dr. feickert protractor? The instructions that come with the protractor seem to indicate that you shouldn't....but it's difficult to say. Thank you for all you do for the vinyl community
@HiViNywschannel6 жыл бұрын
Hi Brother🤗!! Thank you for catching up here! May I share this with you...👋🛑 Taping down the platter is to prevent unnecessary and accidental shifting of the platter during alignment...coz accidental shifting may cause accidental bumping of the stylus against the other parts of the tracking force gauge, etc any apparatus that is used during cartridge alignment. Accidents had happened in my own experience before and I had learnt from my mistakes and hence i am very adamant and passionate about taping down the platter before any other steps requiring the stylus touching things here and there✌🛑... Let me know if you have other queries my friend. 🤗

+See You In Mist Thanks. My question was probably a little unclear. Because of a high cartridge, I have mounted an adjustable VTA. But because the arm tube of the Rega is not straight, it is not eady to see when it is parallel with the platter.
