From the time this car was towed to the shop, to the finished product, looks simply amazing! To unfreeze the engine, suggest remove the plugs then squirt generous amounts of say Marvel Mystery Oil let it sit for a few days but keep tugging at it from time to time. hope it will loosen up. My take on the subject, from first video, its been in a fender bender, i would try to loosen up engine, then load it on the trailer and head out to a collector car swap meet with a For Sale sign...here in Los Angeles, we have the Pomona Swap Meet. All the best...

Amazing job cleaning up the car! I Totally agree on your plan Dane. When I watched the first video I thought the frame could probably be saved. Warning: I found this out the hard way, pull the valve cover and check for stuck valves before you try to turn over the engine. I didn't do that in a '41 Chevy and it broke a couple of rocker arms. Can't just go to NAPA and buy new ones. 😅 Drive it and have some fun!

Well sir, as long as the frame is in relatively good condition and the mechanicals are all there. I would get the car in good reliable shape to drive (if this is out of your realm then network with someone who can do this for you after an assessment of the condition of the engine). I do not know what your skill levels are but I would not go into a complete frame off restoration if you do not have the facilities and the time to delve into this. The rust repair where necessary and a good standard re-paint would do the job. Fixing the interior would make the car more enjoyable to drive. And of course this does not need to be done all at one time. Will be interesting to follow this as the car appears to be a good candidate for a reliable driver.

ATF down all the cylinders though the spark plug holes, let it sit for a day or two, then take a breaker bar and try to rock the crank pulley. If it doesn’t at least move and do a full rotation you’ll have a nice boat anchor. And honestly I would’ve just yanked the seats and started pressure washing that interior, at least as a start.

Wish I could afford to buy it from you. Had a '52 4-door I bought for $10 when I was 16. Went through the whole process you're going through with your car. I'll admit I was lucky buying that car as Dad and I drove it back to our house from the barn we found it in. Put a lot of work into it but it was worth it. Find a good 235 or 250 6 cylinder if it's locked up. All the savable stuff (manifolds, generators, and starters will swap right into whatever 6 you choose. You might wanna wire up some electric wipers because vacuum wipers really suck. Ask my kid sister when she drove my car home from school in a snowstorm! Good luck with the car.

A 1960's-era Chevy six would be the way to go. Parts are still available, especially the ones that also fit the 283 engine. I noticed that the Chevy had a six volt battery. Don't know if it would be wise to attempt an upgrade to 12 volt.
@kencarney66677 ай бұрын
@@JamesFranklin-hd4tm 12 volt is definitely the was to go with these cars. Those 6 volt lighting systems just won't cut it on today's roads. Funny you should mention the '60s GM sixes. That's what I put into my '52 sedan after my sister spun a bearing trying to get the car out of a snowbank. Bought the carcass of a '64 Chevy a friend of mine owned that had been stripped when it broke down in a really bad neighborhood. The remains had a 230 cube unit that I swapped into my sedan. The swap worked so well that we used it to pull our camper on a family vacation one year. I wound up selling the car to finance another project I had at the time. I saw my car one last one after I sold it in '72. I saw it at a gas station in 1986. The young man whose brother bought my car was quite surprised when I told him all about it. Bet it's still running around out there today.
@GaryRobertonBoyes9 ай бұрын
You could try to rock the crankshaft back & Forth Gently, at the driveshaft, or, get it rolling and try to use the gears to free it up, if those don't work, try soaking the cylinders with some light oil or diesel. Checking to see if the valves are freed up is a good move..216 cu. in engines used dipper style lubrication, ,not as efficient as a 235 Cu. in. and finding another engine is getting tough
@TheHannah1319 ай бұрын
I would pull the spark plugs and top the cylinders up with marvel mystery oil letting it set for as long as you can before turning the engine. Turn by hand before using the starter.
@Losermachine359 ай бұрын
Also another last ditch option would be to get the brakes all free and then have someone pull you with a truck while its in gear push the clutch in and somewhat SLOWLY let the clutch out. Do not just bomb the clutch because you could bend a rod or break pushrods if they are stuck. Where are you located by the way i could come help you get it going.

I would fix it up just like Davin on red line rebuild on the Hagerty you tube channel. It was a 51chevy pickup.
@Losermachine359 ай бұрын
Ok first thing you wanna do is pull the spark plugs. Then pour atf down into the cylinders. Let that soak for a few days. Then pull the valve cover and soak everything with oil. Then you wanna put a breaker bar and socket ok the crankshaft nut after putting in neutral) if it moves great slowly turn it over 4 full revolutions. While checking to see all of the rockers have moved. If not put it in gear and rock the car back and forth. Then put a battery in and try to see if it will spin(key off push button on dash) then re install the spark plugs and change the oil. Then remove your distributor cap and clean the points. Bump the engine over till the points are shut and turn the key on. Remove the coil wire from the cap and place it near the engine block and manually open and shut the points. If it sparks then youre ignition system is good. Replace cap and wires. Now disconnect the fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump. Run a new line out to a gas tank temporarily. Then remove the fuel line on the carburetor and put a temporary line with a hose on it and fill with gas(or remove the top of the carb and fill the bowl about 3/4) this will save you from excessive cranking. Pour some gas down the carb throat as well and make sure the throttle moves by hand.
@Losermachine359 ай бұрын
If it doesnt spin youll need to get to the flywheel and use a pry bar to try and turn the flywheel. If that doesnt work youll need to disassemble the engine and find out whats stuck and unstick it then lube and reassemble it(this wont cost you anything but it will be time consuming. As far as the brakes. You can get brake like and all that from yoir local parts store. The wheel cylinders you can take apart and rebuild. You will need to borrow or buy a wheel cylinder hone and hone them using brake fluid while doing so. Clean them with brake clean and lube with brake fluid and reassemble with the new rubber cups and seals. Being as it is a single cylinder brake system do not skimp on rebuilding everything because there is NO BACKUP in case of failure.
@Losermachine359 ай бұрын
Remove the fuel tank(be mindful of the sending unit wire) and have the tank professionally cleaned out. Test for leaks by putting plugs in fuel line threads and if it leaks a radiator shop will be able to solder it up for you(once youve had it professionally dipped/cleaned) then hand paint with rustolium and undercoat. Re install the tank. If the straps are busted(i seem to remember them being busted) you can make some out of steel strap from the hardware store.
