I kind of disagree about language learning becoming easier after your first foreign language. English is my second language, but I didn't really "learn " it I was just watching a bunch of YT videos, as well as being exposed to it onse in a while through out my life and I became (almost) fluent. My relatives think I have some kind of talent for language learning but the truth is that I tried learning other languages and it doesn't work. I don't even know where to begin!

Iirc the reason the US celebrates Cinco de Mayo is that the War against the French took place parallel the American Civil War. One of the concerns on the American side was Napoleon III securing Mexico thus a potential recognition of the CSA as a legitimate government which the North was trying to avoid throughout the whole war.
