Yes, it certainly took some time to tick the token off my bucket list (it seems some other detectorist seems to dig them up ahead of me 🤣) but I'm glad I got there in the end. We don't normally detect into the evening like that, but the weather was really hot that week so it was much more comfortable to do so! There's a part 2 coming for the location where we pretty much did the same thing. Cheers mate :)

Great to see your pretty face again from Connecticut, USA! Looks like the token was originally gold and was imitated often. I pulled this excerpt from online: This piece is an imitation of a Venetian zecchino (sequin) by London merchants in the 19th century to trade with colonized Africa. Similar parts with abstract representations of Christ, the Doge and St. Lawrence, but in gold, are known in India. In the eastern Mediterranean, the Venetian sequins have long been the means of payment and have been imitated many times. So cool!

What little we knew about the region in question would suggest that, for whatever reason, this particular area was very female-dominant. There were also many parasol components and the like. So either reason you mentioned could be valid here :) Cheers!
