Could intelligent design in biological systems be scientifically detectable?
Intelligent Design holds that intelligence is responsible for many of the instances of order and complexity in the natural world. Modern science itself, in fact, was built on the belief that design in nature could be discovered. Only with the rise of Darwinian evolution and philosophical naturalism has this assumption become philosophically incorrect.
Leading proponent of Intelligent Design, mathematician and philosopher, Dr. William Dembski, volleys the question of creation deep into the realm of scientific controversy. Dembski is the author of such works as "The Design Inference" and "No Free Lunch: Why Specified Complexity Cannot Be Purchased Without Intelligence."
Responding to Dembski, the Center for Inquiry enlists Professor of Philosophy, Physics, and Biology, Dr. Niall Shanks. His book "God, the Devil, and Darwin" placed him at the forefront of an escalating debate spanning the sciences, theology, and philosophy.
