For point E, I don't understand the explanation. All I heard was "I selected this direction of these three forces like this," what does this mean? How can you just select the direction of forces?

Would it matter if we say the force fcd is acting to the left instead of the right at joint D?

I believe you can say it points to the left or to the right, in the beginning. When you isolate Fcd in the equations, you would get a positive sign if you assumed the correct orientation or a negative sign if you assumed the contrary.

Thank you so much! Do you think you could explain 6-42 please? I'm looking at some solutions and some methods some people use for that one but all my equations end up in Tension, when I do it, instead of Compression and I'm not sure how and why that is. If you could also explain 7-8 and 7-13 from this book when you have time I'd greatly appreciate it! Thank you for this channel!

if its goes away from the joint you have chosen to solve its tension if its coming towards to the joint then its compression
