Its amazing how 2 strokes detroit come up so fast and run on so little oil. the cranks in there are ultra hardened and hardend than snowmobile cranks!

I have the same engine setup at work. I always start her up and let her idle at 750 or so for a minute or two then crank her wild. I know these engines can take the abuse but I try not to have it max rpm’s when I start.

They don’t care too much about getting lube thru the engine and allowing the engine and turbo to warm up.😡

@@jlo13800 I love trucks and heavy equipment, especially the vintage stuff. My cousin rest his soul, owned a 76’ refinery’s substation and ran 4-5 Pete 359’s. One blew a motor once and my cousin had a dozer with worn out finals but a fresh 12V92TA. He put that motor in that Pete and I swear it would run 100 loaded with an old Spicer 15 speed, crazy but cool as hell.

Why are you revving it up so high from a cold start?

To answer your question correctly it's a generator. That's why it immediately went to full throttle.

As it's a 2-stroke there's twice the power impulses per revolution, so it sounds like it's going at double rpm
@Bob-j5o3b8 ай бұрын
@@paulhorton5612 Yeah but it's not a low idle - it's running at rated rpm which, depending on the generator, could be 1500 or 1800 rpm or something similar. I'd say it sounds like 1800. In a vehicle application, a 71's usual range is 500 to 2100, same as four stroke engines like N series and 3406B
