Startup with no block heater. I usually keep it plugged in because it’s easier on the starter, battery’s etc...Please comment if you are interested in seeing more content.

Beautiful truck. Finally someone who knows how to start a cold Detroit. Crank until it tries to fire. Stop and wait a few seconds to let cylinders warm Up from partial firing. Then try again. That was not hard on the starter, or motor. Would love to hear some videos of it working hard pulling loads.

Its hard to find just anybody mechanic wise who knows there stuff on the older two cycle detroit engines due to how long they have been out of production. I wonder if there is any video a mechanic has made on all the tricks to set the valves/injectors/jakes and the rack as I have a 8V92 silver tip which I am sure could use a going over as it can't lift a load like I think it should. Oh and as to the starting of those old two cycles, like another said about waiting after cranking over for a very short period of time. I've seen guys crank and crank and they will not respond to that. I'd say only crank over for 3 to 5 seconds and then wait at least 15 seconds if not longer, try again and repeat as necessary as sometimes in cooler weather it will take two or three goes like that but all with minimal cranking time. It gets that compression heat built up a chance to soak into the metal of the cylinder and head and these detroits really respond to that even better then typical four stroke diesels. I hate to use starting fluid on any engine unless there is no alternative ( obviously the block heater is the go to and plan ahead with it plugged in if at all possible if one is near power )

Plan to build a camper on the flatbed and run away from home soon, but we'll have to see how the 7.17 gears do with proper sized tires and the front axle unlocked.
