It took over 3 minutes to charge a line using the Detroit reverse lay. Pulling up to the scene and dropping a line means water on the fire in less than a minute.

Not stopping to hit a hydrant allows tank water to be applied faster. Let the second due set up hydrant water, assuming there isn’t a delay. Two different ways that both work. I’m sure it’s their SOP. When I was in the fire service we would secure our own water supply as you mentioned. 😉
