SSoHPKC, the light switch is probably connected to an outlet in the room (in the same wall maybe?). I had one in my apartment too. When I would hit the switch, it would turn on my bedside lamp so I didnt have to scuttle around in the dark.

will you be replacing the wall outlets? it's relatively easy enough. Cut the power if you're afraid of dying, but you should be fine as long as you don't touch two cables.. or make on of them touch something metalic, like the metal piece of the outlet (will make a few sparks and basically melt a bit of it) Most tools should have no problems touching the cable itself though.

the light switch most likely connects to the outlet so find witch outlet works with the switch now you can turn your light on before you walk in your dark room. :)

You know that the upside down outlet is how the electrician will designate which outlet is controlled by the power switch if they have it wired that way. The upside down outlet might be controlled by the switch by your door. Maybe?

Seamus the outlet wasn't upside down it's just you're used to the other ones ( the ones with the ground at the bottom are upside down) Electrical 101 :P. Also you'd be surprised towards how much room you could have if you had a bunk bed (so much more room for activities :D)

Are you sure that light switch doesn't control the power to an outlet somewhere? I had an apartment with no ceiling light and the switch near the door would power an outlet on the other side so you could turn the light on and off that way.
