I just came across your videos and I just love watching people doing what ever they can to do the work themselves and save a ton of money. I can not imagine how much you saved changing the tranny fluid, oil and putting on the air bags. Great job dude.

Great video! The Fleetguard LF9009 oil filter for my Cummins ISC has instructions printed on it. Pre-fill, tighten hand tight and then turn 3/4 of a rotation with a filter wrench. Also, I use Fumoto valves on all my vehicles. Get the one with the "N" (for nipple) in the part number. This allows a short hose to be attached if needed. I remove the little plastic lock and slide the valve lever. This allows you to fill into smaller containers for recycling and avoids that big gush of oil from removing the oil. No mess, easy day. It does takea little longer to drain.

Glad you enjoyed the video! I generally am not a fan of quick drain valves due to the slower drain times, but I think you've got a good suggestion in this case. The one negative is still that if you have chunks in the oil pan that they generally won't come out when you have a quick drain valve. I'll look into that before I do the next oil change. It is a bit annoying to do the multiple drains and fills with this. I think it's more common to see the recommendation to pre-fill filters on Cummins vs. Cat (I believe the manual for the Series 60 said not to pre-fill either), but really, personal preference. When I was younger I pre-filled filters and now I don't - neither has ever caused me an oil-related problem.

Ted I'm always afraid I'm telling you something you already know, but just in case....if you tip the 5gal bucket with the spout to the top, it doesn't do the glug-glug thing and is easier to handle. Rotate the bucket as it empties to maintain that little air gap at the top. Does make it hard to hold the funnel at the same time though. At least you have clearance...most of my stuff I have to pour the oil into 1 gallon cans before I can get it into the engine.

Good tip! I definitely do that more with the gallon size jugs. For the 5 gallon ones I generally find that trying to rotate it while holding it up is harder, but that’s just me personally. Always appreciate suggestions/tips, both for me and also for anyone else who reads the comments. The whole point for these videos is to help people learn (myself and others).

I use 5w-40 on my 14l series 60, feel free to ask me any questions you might have. I went with this viscosity due to the cold weather climate where I live. I also add a oil additive, similar to all my other vehicles too. The oil additive I add is from Project Farms KZbin channel.

Good to know, thanks! I may reconsider at a future oil change. I've seen people running 5W-40 and even 0W-40 in these as well.

Curious to know what fuel filters you use. Another great video.

I use Fleetguard FS-19624 for the fuel filter. My bus is set up with the single see-through cartridge filter, not dual canister filters.

Once again great video, and attention to detail. Question for you. What are your thoughts on installing a fumoto valve for draining.
@TedsGarage4 ай бұрын
I might consider installing one on this since it would improve the situation of having to put the drain plug back in a bunch of times. However normally I'm not a big fan since they generally will restrict any metal chunks that are in the oil pan from coming out, thus potentially hiding some internal engine issues.

What is your view of the oil bypass 1-micron oil filter systems? To me, it should have merit. Why would it not reduce wear and improve the life of the engine?
@TedsGarage4 ай бұрын
I think there’s merit to it. Better filtration should contribute to longer engine life. It If I got offered one to review I would certainly put it on. However given that I’m operating a “million mile engine” in a bus that is only likely to see a few hundred thousand miles in its life, it’s not a super high priority for me personally.

Would you consider installing a spigot on the engine oil pan where the drain plug is ?
@TedsGarage4 ай бұрын
Another viewer suggested that, and I might do that. It would definitely make oil changes easier, although the oil does drain slower. The other thing I don't like is that any chunks that come out might not make it out of the oil pan and warn me of issues. I'll think about it between now and the next oil change - for the once every probably 9-12 months I do it, it's not that big of a deal.
