Roy Brooks was a genius the percussion modifications he incorporated with his playing were out of this world!! He was a deeply soulful trap drummer too. One of Detroit's absolute master's master!! RIP Reside In Percussion. Mr Brooks!!

Thanks for posting, Detroit Sound Conservancy! Alas, I saw his fellow percussion genius bandleaders Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Billy Higgins, Jack DeJohnette and Ed Blackwell make sonic miracles in concert, but did not see Roy. His albums "Understanding," "Beat," "The Free Slave," "Duet In Detroit" and "Black Survival: The Sahel Concert at Town Hall" are outstanding.

38:00 Is an excerpt from Max Roach's M'BOOM percussion ensemble. Check out M'BOOM Live at SOBs in New York circa 1991. Look into their work it's available on You Tube. M'BOOM were the elite jazz drummers who were all verse in percussion and an amazing artwork to have witnessed in person I must say!!
