洋阿相 昔々この演奏をラジオ音楽番組で聴きあまりの超絶技巧にただただ圧倒されました。そして、ムソルグスキーの原曲版の楽譜とあまりにも異なる編曲にも驚きました。それ以来もうかれこれ65年余り随分と多くjの演奏家の原典版であったりホロヴィッツ版や他の編曲版の録音を耳にしましたが、改めてリメイクされたホロヴィッツの演奏を聴き録音の鮮明さ（かすかな聴衆のざわめきも聞き取れる）もあって彼の凄さを再確認することが出来ました。それにしても「バーバヤーガの小屋」から終曲にかけての圧倒的クライマックスは他に類を見ません。

Horowitz was the first pianist to display an exhibition picture at the performance venue. He plays an arrangement version of Ravel, omitting some promenades. The reason is simple. It was diversified by omitting it. Easy to understand for Western audiences. There is no need to mess with the original song. However, even his friend Rimsky Korsakov arranges the night of Ulsan and few conductors play the original music.

展覧会の絵を編曲するならば、日本の作曲家でシンセサイザー奏者の「冨田勲」の物が最高である。クラシックでもポピュラーでもない。イメージの広がり、曲の持つストーリー性・登場人物の個性までも、誰が聴いても間違いがない程、遺憾なく表現している。ラヴェルやギタリストの山下の編曲も素晴らしい。ホロヴィッツが、展覧会の絵を演奏会場に引っ張り出したことは、原曲でも素晴らしい事が示されている。しかし、技術家で編曲の才能の或るホロヴィッツは、易し過ぎて観客には理解が難しい。自分に期待される事と異なると考えたのだと、僕は推定している。彼はプロムナードの数を減らし、他の曲とプロムナードの関係を多様化した。ラヴェルと同じ発想である。また音色に関しては、ホロヴィッツの能力があれば、ラヴェルの編曲からのアイデアを実現する事にも成功している、現在のピアニストはそんな事はしないで、原曲を素直に弾いている。それで良いではないか。ラヴェルの編曲は別にして、冨田勲の編曲を聴いてしまうと、捻くり回す事の意味が失われている。ピアノで如何に超絶技巧を使おうと、あの編曲が越えられない事は明らかなのだ。
