Samtaber is a small village on the bank of river Rupnarayan, in Howrah district of West Bengal, which is more popularly known as Deulti. The main attraction of this place is the old heritage house of the famous Bengali novelist Sarat Chandra Chattopadhayay, where he lived 12 years of his life, from 1926 to 1938. The house once became meeting point of freedom fighters and was visited by even Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Rashbehari Bose, C.R.Das, Bagha Jatin, B.B.Ganguly. Visitors can visit the interior of the house and see the belongings and furniture, once used by Sarat Chandra.
Apart from the house, one can enjoy the pure nature of this village, away from the city life. One can spend some quality time on the bank of river Rupnarayan,, enjoying the beauty of the nature.
This is not all. Deulti has another attraction hidden inside the village - a 370 years' old heritage temple. The temple of Madan Gopal Jiu was built in 1651 and is another example of rich heritage of Bengal. The 45 ft high temple built in typical Bengali Aatchala style, has panels with terracotta decorations.
Deulti is around 65 km from Kolkata by road. It takes around 2 to 2.5 hrs to reach by car. If you want to go by train, you can take Panskura bound local train fro Howrah Station and get down at Deulti Station. Toto is available from station to visit all the spots at Deulti.
