DEUTSCH HDP20 & HD30 Series Connector Instructions

HDP20 & HD30 Series Contact Insertion
Step 1: Grasp contact approximately one inch behind the contact crimp barrel.
Step 2: Hold the connector with the rear grommet facing you.
Step 3: Push contact straight into connector grommet until a positive stop is felt. A slight tug will confirm that it is properly locked in place.
HDP20 & HD30 Series Contact Removal
Step 1: With the rear grommet facing you, snap appropriate size removal tool over the wire of contact to be removed.
Step 2: Slide tool along into the insert cavity until it engages contact and resistance is felt.
Step 3: Pull the contact-wire assembly out of connector.

I personally find it quite complicated to insert and to remove the contacts properly due to the reduce space available and the rigidity of the wire I use (I use normal sheathed wires). Please, can you tell which wires do you use? It looks like the wires on the video are made for this purpose, as they are flexible and gummy, which makes the insertion pretty easy. But if you had a PVC-coated multiwire, which has a rather rigid sheath, it's difficult to insert the contacts. In multiwire cables the individual wires are individually sheathed and intertwisted with each other, so there is quite a reduced space to maneuver them. Also the rigidity of the PVC sheath produces a lot of resistance. Finally, can you show how the cable looks like when the cable clamp is also installed at the end of the connector? Thanks for the video, it's very instructive.

you are supposed to use Tefzel wire. the outer sheath is thinner than the typical PVC-coated wire and has better abrasion & better temperature resistance

Hello, I just got an HDP30 connector for my project car. As soon as I got it, I got excited and wanted to see the pin in the connector and went ahead and put it in before crimping the wire. Anyway, I can’t seem to get the pin out and am in need of some suggestions/help. TIA!

It's definitely not as easy to depin as this video suggests... regardless of what tool is used. It's nearly impossible, actually - heads up to those who are doing this for the first time.
