For the people that do this more often, you can use a gearbox support to push the strut upwards a little, that way you wont have to losen your driveshaft from the gearbox since it wont hit.

Just finished putting them on my car. Went for a ride on 17" and suspension is worth every penny I payed . Car is a lot more precise and response on steering. It is stiff, but because it's precise, it's not taking your teeths out, so going for a ride with family is not a problem. Smooth ride even through rough roads.

Few questions....1) Is your air set to certain torque settings? Not sure if there's any torque specs for all the bolts, or do we just "tighten" it....2) Is the process the same for DCC-equipped GTI's? Unfortunately DCC is mandatory with performance pack in Canada, which I really want but still hoping to change to coilovers. Not sure if this affects both hardware and software with the DCC? Thanks.

El Chero Yes you can get a similar ride height as the springs. Our coil overs were lowered all the way down and should be able to go up around 1.5-2 in. As for ride quality the coil overs will be much more precise and your springs.

My only criticism is tightening everything with a rattle gun, with suspension parts if you over tighten the rubbers to much they can squeak or wear and split prematurely! Should always use a torque wrench and torque to manufacture specs. Other then that nice job! 👍

@Deutscheautoparts9 жыл бұрын
+EMuybridge This would be how most techs would install a suspension. There are torque specs recommended by VW which can be used if you feel more comfortable.
@clutchthepearls30628 жыл бұрын
Always tighten things down to proper torque specs. This is a pretty shoddy job IMO. Things like that pinch bolt holding the knuckle to the bottom of the strut most likely has a specific procedure. Something like 30ft/lbs then back 90 degrees, then tighten to 75ft/lbs and tighten another 90 degrees is common on those types.
@tncpeterd7 жыл бұрын
People really do over look torquing bolts properly. I had new wheels fitted recently that use centering rings, they absolutely need to be tightened to the proper torque using a star pattern or the wheels will not spin properly causing all sorts of noises/problems.. I had a shop that was ready to start grinding down my centering ring thinking that should solve the issue because they were dead set on just using the air guns to tighten down the bolts, i explained that you'll have one bolt tighter than another bolt and one might be over torqued and one under torqued and so on.. I had them tighten all bolts to 92lbs and have not had a problem with my wheels since. I will always follow the proper torque spec now.
