This is why I love German Engineering! The best engineering is nothing like having to disconnect 130 hoses and unscrew 512 bolts and nuts. This engine out was necessary because the engine isn't good, but most times, it is a rear main seal or some stupid plastic part that they put in the most impossible way to get it out. Love you VW/Audi please never change! ❤

Incorrect in every point you tried to make lol. The same process is for every brand, and nowadays, every brand has a multitude of hoses and electrical connector to disconnect. I’ve done a lot of things on my MK7 GTI and never have had to remove the engine lol. It’s a fairly easy car to work on.

Oh don't worry, there are plenty other cars that make life difficult. Not so long ago I had to lift and hang the engine and drop subframe at the same time to change oil pan gasket on 1999 renault with 1.6 non turbo in it. Droping the subframe includes unhooking engine wiring from it. Droping the pan, requires removing it's 20 bolts plus 4 extra that hold few unrelated parts. Cherry on top is putting it back together just to have transmission converter nut knocking on it coz it moved ever so slightly towards trany.

When I swapped the motor in my EmKay6 GTi, I pulled the AC compressor off the motor and left it with the body. I was able to keep the charge on the AC with the motor out. Also, for those of us not fortunate enough to have a lift, I pulled the front end off and took the motor out the front with subframe still in the car.

Even with a lift, out the front is easier. Bumper comes off easily, getting the rad pack out after is also easy with someone to help lift. You can leave the exhaust where it is, the prop doesnt get in the way, the driveshafts like you say don't need to move much. Done it both ways and have a much easier time out the front and you're not going to damage the radiator.

i doo it very differently. i begin by removing the top parts of the valve cover and the cover itself. loose then head, remove all thats connected to the head (water plumbing, chain or belt etc) take off the head, balance the bottom end with a jack or jack stands, unfasten the inner CV joints to free up the gear box, then i de couple the gearbox from the block, remove it, then finish off with the block, although still heavy but its ighter than a complete engine. get a few hands from buddies and we lift out the block and have a few celebratory beers after than. with limited tools and equiment i cannot even get the car up to drop the engine or hoist it out of the car. what i do is time consuming and more engaging but hey, what choice do i have. gets the job done too. now ofcorse i just summerized the steps but there's a hell of alot more to do in between of the steps i mentioned. i literally take it out in managable pieces. same steps when i put it back in after repairs or replacement. this is basically how to take out an engine with a one man show and with limited tools
@Wilbsss4 ай бұрын
Also of note is that in most places you can get an AC tech to come to you or can rent the AC machine and DIY. Really useful for if the car doesn't drive and you can't or don't want to trailer it somewhere. @Deutscheautoparts4 ай бұрын
Yes it likely is possible depending on the vehicle. There would be a concern that it he AC lines or condenser could get damaged in that process. I would rather pay someone to discharge then later charge the system, than to break a compressor, condenser or ac line.
