It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience when soprano Anna Netrebko and baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky took to an open-air stage in June 2013 -- two of the leading names in opera, singing live in Moscow's Red Square. The audience, 7,500 strong, showed its appreciation for Russia's two biggest opera stars with unbridled enthusiasm, lending even more magic to the midsummer-night's atmosphere of a spectacular concert. This autumn, the historic two-hour performance, Live from Red Square, is set for release by Deutsche Grammophon on DVD and Blu-ray.

Her voice has become so thick and stiff that she has lost whatever little agility her voice had early on in her career. I think the sight be due to pushing into the territory of Dramatic Soprano roles such as Lady Macbeth, which are really a couple of sizes too big for her essentially lyric voice.

*yawn* I love some of the Verdi she sings now but this sounds labored and sings too heavy for this virtuoso piece. A Bolero should have panache - this sounds like it's been drowned by too much vodka. The conductor starts of at the right tempo and Netrebko just gets slower and slower.

michael dr.zahl The finishing top note that one occassionally hears is an E, not an E flat. It is not written in the score however, so this ending is fully justifiable. However there are other lamentable aspects of this performance.

Yes, she has too heavy voice for this aria, but the pace is the same as for example Callas’ pace in this piece.

Анна- красивая женщина, раскрепощенная иногда с избытком, не отягощенная аристократизмом. Многим это очень нравится, но называть ее лучшим сопрано может только оперный профан. Здесь выступление неудачно- замедление и без того неправильно выбранного темпа, форсирование, непопадание в ноты, открытые ноты, ну а про верха я уже не говорю. Все таки репертуар нужно выбирать с учетом своих возможностей.

I love Anna but she's singing in Italian - what for? Italians have decades ago debandoned their custom of translating all foreign operas. Merci jeunes amies doesn't go in Italian!

Jose B. Caceres Actually in this case there's a double libretto, so the French and the Italian versions are both official ones! Same it goes for La favorite/La favorita and Lucie de Lammermoor/Lucia di Lammermoor (this two are actually more different from each other, even considering the music). Worldwide, all this 3 are more frequently performed in Italian rather then French, though it's natural from French companies to use their own language
