No, no, it's not just me talking casually. Guide was a milestone movie. It's exploration of the human mind was quite unique for a bollywood mov. I recommend that everyone should see both English version and the Indian version of the movie GUIDE--both based on the same novel. Indian version makes Raju the greatest character human being on the surface of the earth(and that is the brilliance of movie director & script writer Vijay Anand).The English version of the movie was the Script written by Pearl S Buck (Nobel Prize Winner) & Portrays Raju as the biggest Con artist. People in the West are wired different by THE ALMIGHTY. "EAST IS EAST & WEST IS WEST & NEVER THE TWAIN SHALL MEET "--is 100 year old quote from English philosopher Rudyard Kipling.

well written! you are absolutely correct, i believe Dev saheb was trying his hand in Hollywood, however that's a hard task considering there's a huge difference even within the north and south of India. and yes, Everyone should definitely take a look at both the versions, even though Dev sahab knew there would be less return on investment from the English version, yet he still made that. The indian version was perfected by goldie, for them though, it was both a business AND an artform, the risk and years of effort it took. i am glad they made it. it felt great to read your words, thanks a lot for that!

There's a phrase like "it's better than the real thing". Dev Anand took the 1958 novel/ short story "Guide", authored by Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Narayan, and gave it a severe plot twist, in order to convert the novel to a Hindi movie with enough drama. And the result that emerged was much better and refined, than the original work of the author Narayan. Yes, I happened to read the novel, as it was included in my high school syllabus. The ending of the novel is quite ordinary, boring and lacklustre 😊. Dev Anand's Guide is way better.
