Nadagana Santhu You are right, but one mistake was done. SSK should have taken the rights of the ANR version, though they have the opportunity to buy the rights. ANR was upset about the remake, bought the rights and he took the revenge by re-releasing the version. Excellent music by Ramesh Naidu and made with superior technical values to match the contemporary values.

నాగేశ్వరరావుగారిలా 'దేవదాసు'లాంటి ప్రేమకథా చిత్రాలలో నటించి, రామారావుగారలా 'దాన వీర శూర కర్ణ'లాంటి పౌరాణిక చిత్రాలలో నటించి వాళ్ళను మించి నటించారనిగాని, వాళ్ళతో సమానంగా నటించారనిగాని ఇంత వరకు ఏ నటుడు అనిపించుకో లేదు! కృష్ణగారు ఈ చిత్రంలో నటించి పెద్ద సాహసమే చేశారు! కాని ఈ చిత్రం 1974వ సంవత్సరం నాటి ప్రేక్షకుల ఆదరణ పొందలేదు!

Krishna garu has the personality but not the acting. He is good in detective and law enforcement (police) films. In social films he needs strong heroines like Jamuna, Vanisri, Jayasudha, Jayaprada and Vijaya Nirmala, in that order. He is very stiff and lacks facial expressions; looks good is the plus point to some.

Lakshmi G I disagree, he has talent but depends on how he has been tapped. He has done excellent movies that no one dared to make such as “Alluri Seetharamaraju”, “Eenaadu “, and many without heroine. The best on-screen pair with SSK is Sridevi, Jayaprada, Radha, Vijaya Nirmala, in that order and the rest. Since more than 150 movies he acted with those four only.

In the original Devadasu (1953) Savitri was just 18 years old whereas in Krishna's Devadasu Vijayanirmala was 28 years old. This could be one of the reasons why the movie flopped. 2nd reason why the movie flopped is the vamp character played by actress Jayanthi who is known for sentimental crying roles.

Saratchandra wrote a love story in a contemporary society as he saw it with two strong willed people whose love was decimated by social strata as well as by their own egos. Sarat's female leads are always strong in every one of his books - naturally we see a Parvati able to carve a life out of chaos but Devadas was that weak loser (in my eyes, the great writer allowed each one of us draw our own conclusions on the characterization). That was depicted SO PERFECTLY BY EVERY ACTOR, AND I MEAN EVERY ACTOR in Telugu version directed by Vedantam Raaghavayya garu. The lyrics, music, singing and everything else was in sync. The movie I see hear satisfies egos of actors to remake an epic and their fans who like it, but I humbly say when the great Dilip Kumar admitted that ANR version was the best, who am I to contest. This is good effort that pales in comparison in every aspect.
