I’m so glad I stumbled upon this tutorial! I was going to put WAY too much work into the full screen/L3 announcements look. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It was such a blessing. I was still brain dead at the end of my setup bc I needed an LED wall output, imag output tied to lobby outputs, then a livestream output. It was the physical routing that really confused me with how looks work and how to get what I needed to each screen. But I got eventually got it with the help of this video.

This video is great! The idea about keeping your DSK live all the time is a game changer. Sometimes our video switcher and propresenter operator are not on the same page timing-wise, which can cause some full screen graphics accidentally or not have any lower third lyrics when there should be. Awesome video!

Also, putting on a timer to auto-advance after the video announcement is another great idea.

Bro.... You da man! This is an awesome video and popped up when I was googling for how to do lower thirds in PP7. I planned on just a super simple lower thirds text only option for our livestream feed, but your video went so much farther and helped me turn it up to 11. I added multiple new themes and looks for our livestream lower thirds now and can't wait to show our volunteers all this new stuff... not to mention that all your explanations of different looks helped me get it all set up so our streaming tech won't even have to change OBS sources once the sermon starts and he calls up the scene that layers the camera feed with our new PP7 lower third NDI connection that uses all these new looks. I just went from two techs having to change graphics all the time, roughly in sync, down to one who won't have to do anything different yet will be changing the graphics on both the auditorium screens and the livestream at the same time.

@@devanbumstead Devan, thanks again this is fantastic. We installed Decklink last week and used for the first time last Sunday. It all worked great. We did not do the alpha key on announcements like you did but did something similar. Our projection screen is a doublewide (3840x1080) centered over the stage. Our communications pastor creates doublewide announcement slides and HD(1920x1080) announcement slides for the lobby screens. So instead of keying announcements, we put the doublewide slides on the background layer and the HD slides on the slide layer. That way the HD slides go to the live stream full. That worked great. I'm wondering if you guys do intro countdowns during preservice in house or on the stream. If so, how are you doing it? We want to try that this week. But I'd like to have an announcement loop going during preservice. I assume this would be simple since PP Countdowns appear on the props layer. I'd just have to figure out where to place the countdown text that doesn't interfere with the Announcement content. Thanks for your help.
@devanbumstead3 жыл бұрын
@@jwalker6188 Hey Jerry, so glad it all worked out for you! We mirror our pre-service countdown in the auditorium and on our livestream. We don’t feel the need (at the moment) to do to separate things for our different audiences since we feel the countdown video helps our in person people too. But it does seem like there’s a way to do what you are attempting to do. I just have no personal experience with doing it that way. But I love that propresenter is so flexible! Good luck with that and let me know what you ultimately do. I’d love to see how you set that up.

@@devanbumstead Thanks, for all your help. I pray everything is going okay with you and your family. I've noticed you have not posted anything lately, so I'm praying everything is okay. We finally got everything working with our new PP7 computer with new Deck-Link running key & alpha to our ATEM TVS switcher. We are still working on a few things, trying to decide which stream graphics to play from PP7 and which ones to play from the switcher. Our main screen is a double wide 3840x1080(we call 2x), so that means we have to do things a little differently. We are using the trick you showed us of sending background layer (2x) to the projector and slide layer (HD) to the stream. This week, we got the props layer working to have our countdown to service while the announcements played. We also used PP7's latest scrolling text tool. I'd love to hear what you think. This is great man! We're doing a lot of the same things in Pro7! One thing I noticed, for your announcement video, you have the Go To Next Timer set for 391 seconds. If you change the video to Foreground (Right Click > Media Action Behavior > Foreground), that will change the Go To Next Timer to start after the video is played. So, for every video you drag in, switch it to foreground, and just have the Go To Next Timer set to .5 seconds or whatever length you want and it will always start at the end of whatever video you have there. Just a suggestion! I've gotten a few ideas from watching your tutorial!

So good to hear! Love that trick too! We use lots of Looks for the sermon but you’re right, it would get a little crazy for announcements. Although I guess you could just make 5-6 announcement looks (i.e. “Ann1”, “Ann2”, “Ann3”, etc.) and just change them each week from the Themes editor. It’s not a bad way to do it either. And then the thumbnail wouldn’t have the lower third and the slide showing at the same time. That’s a tiny problem for us since our Stage Display shows both images on top of each other, sometimes hiding important info from the main slide.

Great video. So, between notes and scripture do you use a slide with just the graphic for in house and the message blank theme for the livestream? I’ve been trying to come up with a way to leave the note item on the in house screen while clearing it from the livestream. Right now I do what it appears you are doing and leave my sermon series graphic up with no slide content. I use a different method by setting my background image visibility to the text box having content. Sometimes I want to leave something on the in house screen and clear the lower thirds. I could duplicate the slide and change the look but I would rather not duplicate and I would have to set the transition to cut to keep the slide in house from changing so the result is a cut on the lower thirds as well.

Stanford, I'm glad it was helpful! I use a program called Affinity Designer for all our church's graphics. It's essentially the same as Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop only cheaper and much more intuitive to me. Because we design most graphics from scratch in house, we have access to all the individual pieces of the graphic and can quickly rearrange those pieces into a lower third image and simply export it as a .png with a transparent background. If you end up buying Affinity Designer, you can use this file as a template for your graphics: www.dropbox.com/s/0z57dkx4oeelo3j/NPFCC%20Graphic%20Example.zip?dl=0

Thanks Bradley! That’s a great question. My iMac has two thunderbolt ports and both work with my sonnet box. Great Video. A question about your announcement go to next timer ... You set it up so that the timer is the same length as the video. This suggests to me that your announcement video is a 'background' element. If you made is a 'foreground' element, the timer value could always be zero. This would be simpler, wouldn't it? Is there a benefit to your timer configuration that I am missing?

You’re absolutely correct and I now do that for all my videos. I change them to Foreground, set the Go To Next timer at 0, change the Behavior to Stop, and in the Inspector select the Fade To Clear option so the video transitions smoothly to the next element.

This was such a helpful video for me! Thank you for sharing this. I do have one question: I love the idea of a gradient with the lyrics. However, on my end, my switcher loads the gradient and the text at the same time, but while the gradient is loading, the text is briefly black before turning white. All of this happens in a matter of milliseconds, but it's still very noticeable, so I haven't used this feature live yet. Hey there! I had never streamed from within PP7 until recently. I'm testing out condensing down to one computer and have ours set similar to your tutorial. However, I was wondering about your live stream routing within PP. Are you running the video input through your screen labeled "Lower Thirds?" It seemed like you might run your video on that screen since I only saw main, thirds, and patio in your setup and going live has you choose which screen to broadcast. If so, what is your unlabeled fourth (bottom right) feed in your multiviewer? Thank you!
@devanbumstead2 жыл бұрын
Hey Nate, no, we don’t stream from within PP7. We have Resi’s Ray encoder (hardware) and run a separate video switcher into that. I use the Decklink card to send a Fill and Key from PP7 to my ATEM switcher. I do also have the Decklink card set up to receive an input signal into PP7 but that’s just in the event I want to show the cameras on the main screens in the Auditorium.
@natecombsmusic2 жыл бұрын
@@devanbumstead Ah, that makes sense. Thank you for the response! We are in a bit of a unique situation. I've been streaming for like 7 years and am used to doing all this but via sending to Wirecast/VMix. However, I moved, and my church here also uses Resi but from within a computer dedicated to streaming out of PP. We are the smallest and newest of like 8 campuses but also run the stream from our location. I helped get them to true live a few months ago for the first time. Now, I'm helping the tech team condense the load based on the new single-display out M1 iMac they just got to replace the dying main screen one thru a decklink and chassis and some decimators (which also eliminates our L3 computer and lets the director focus on switching video instead of dual tasking a second lyrics computer). We were playing with the idea of doing it all thru the new computer and repurposing the streaming laptop to the keys player (we borrow a lot of my gear and my performance macbook is dying too!). That about runs me to my limit of PP7 knowledge. Sorry this is so long. Your tutorial was fantastic! If you have any tips or things to look out for with this idea, let me know. Great video. I am new to all of this and we are just getting Pro7 set up and hoping to make the leap next month, so this is very timely! Will the alpha key through NDI allow for the multiple views as the deck link duo can do?For example the announcement slides...full view to main projector and lower 3rd text to live stream as shown. Thx!
@devanbumstead3 жыл бұрын
Lynn, you'll love PP7 once you get the hang of it! NDI is a much different (and easier) thing than using two hardware outputs to accomplish a key/fill. I'm assuming you're using Wirecast or OBS or some other software to send your stream to the web, yes? If so, it will accept an NDI feed over your network and overlay the lower thirds in the software for you on another layer. But you can do all the fun stuff I detailed in this video, just using NDI instead.
@lynnmilberg28153 жыл бұрын
@@devanbumstead we are currently using OBS and create lower 3rds through scenes and an HDMI split of our main screen from Pro6. @devanbumstead3 жыл бұрын
Hey Nick, glad it was helpful! I think this will work with the ATEM Mini Pro but you’d have to get SDI to HDMI converters to connect the DeckLink 2 Duo to the ATEM. And it would take up 2 inputs leaving you only 2 left. But I can’t see why it wouldn’t work. We use a Resi Ray encoder and our ATEM TV Studio runs a SDI out to that. @devanbumstead3 жыл бұрын
I was actually guided to an even better solution from a renewed vision employee. I now use this method and only use a single Look for the entire song: When building the Theme for the lower third format, make your background shape however you like and then check the box that says “Visibility” on the right column. There will be options there to make the object invisible when there is no text. So what happens during blank slides with no text is that both the text and the object disappear from the lower thirds. Works like a charm and saves a bunch of unnecessary work. It also allows you to only apply the Look/Action on the first slide or two of the song instead of needing it on every slide.
