I think the makers did have the idea of two parts sometime after the shooting, because of primarily- budget controlling and secondarily for the story. They might have realized that it's going to cost much more than what they had anticipated only after they've started the shooting. If you see carefully, the entire first half and some climax parts were shot with heavy vfx- the main reason being they can't afford to shoot these things in outdoor environment where they can't control the environment according to the scene's requirements. In this pursuit, they understood that the cost burden and, in a very very controlled manner, shot only AS MUCH AS REQUIRED with precise number of cast and their respective dates to CONTROL THE BUDGET- that's the reason for incomplete character establishments and scenes. I strongly believe that they were LYING through their teeth when they say that THEY BROKE IT INTO TWO PARTS BECAUSE OF THE STORY'S LENGTH. In conclusion, Bahubali worked because they made two parts because THEY NEEDED IT to be in 2 parts and the producers risked by releasing the first part in deficit, but here, these guys wanted to derisk themselves in every part and hence ended up releasing a half baked product- the intentions matter.

Koratala's writing is very bland. All the characters are either black or white, not anything in between, and heroes have savior complex. Except mirchi, all the film's lead actors have this cool attitude which is uncommon in commercial cinema space. This + the savior complex thing, the "star heroes" might be picking him again and again

Devera movie is not a skillful output. I felt bored during watching the film. The start of the film address 2 names, why we need that info, that is not at all leading the basic line of the story. That should've kept in cliffhanger or put in part 2 if necessary. I felt movie should have 2hrs, a crisp cut. 1. Heroine is unnecessary. 2. 4 villages. Nothing will be remembered. 3. Unnecessary comedy. 4. No proper emotions. Nothing will be registered. 5. We got NTR but the dialogues are written very poor. Let's use this thread and discuss why this is not a good output.

50:50 of course, Koratala comes from a semi-communist family (father being a communist, and mother a believer) , but he personally believes in God and Spirituality .. he and his wife are closely associated with RK Math. (as he said in his interviews) regarding depiction of religion and caste : I think, koratala makes that line (it's a godless and casteless land) specifically to avoid caste controversies . He is showing the people living at shore as criminals. naturally, a specific sea-based fishermen caste may get affected (the manobhavaalu zone). To avoid that, he refers to the land as a god-less and "caste-less" land comprising of warrior mercenaries .. but, infact, I found religious depictions in the film 1) that character of Thalluri Rameswari garu (Nijam Mahesh Mother) , she seems to be local tribal priestess . her forehead is smeared with pasupu kumkuma and gandham .. and she gives some sort of mangala harathi. 2) in the second half, when Bhaira spreads the rumour that Devara is dead, then we see some shots of villagers discussing the same, and in one scene a wife and husband will be shown discussing that topic, where the husband is setting his fishing nets while the wife is applying pasupu to a raised structure with a plant in it and doing pradakshina around it (something similar to Tulasi Kota) 3) when the ayudhams are brought to the Vara's village, we see lots of people accompanying that fest and playing all sorts of drums and cymbals. all these guys have vibhuti smeared across their shoulders ... 4) the marriage depiction scene of srikant's sister. Its a proper traditional hindu wedding. You can see the Pelli Kuturu coming and dancing with devara and she already has Jeelakarra Bellam with Tamalapaku on her head . along with edu-adugulu and tying the tali , jeelakarra bellam is a compulsory ritual in traditional marriage .. 5) the very theme of ayudha puja stems from the Hindu tradition. in Dasara, we have a special day for ayudha puja during navaratris where all weapons are worshipped . (though my mother performs this puja with our exam pens and question banks , Because these are my "ayudhams" ) of course, one may even think that the so-called ayudhams are "kathi" and "kodavali" (the symbols of communist party). But I think it more in terms of our culture.. Hence, I think Koratala is not planning on some Cultural theory lines.. Any how, nice podcast, Happy to hear your views .

With regards to what Koratala may be doing in this movies and his earlier ones as well, it is the communist/marxist lens he brings to all of them. Mirchi is a stark exception where none of these words are even uttered. In Acharya he tries to amalgamate Hinduism with Communism in some weird attempt. Coming to Devara, when all these examples you have given here exude Hindu roots/traditions, then why come out and claim that they created a new world and in that place there exists no deity worship? Makes no sense at the surface level. If we go deeper, the ideas of fear that Koratala is trying to drive into the people is tainted with malice is what we believe. We may be wrong, but that kind of dialogue cannot take place on social media because there are vested interests here and our channel will get banned (in all possibility). So, will stop here and go no further.
