FYI friend. A 30-30 has a 150 grain bullet. A 12 ga. Shotgun slug weighs 2 ounces. The 30-30 might get there quicker but a 2 oz. slug chugging along at 1400 fps will take the starch outta any critter, guaranteed!

And you could use other ammunition to make it more effective. In Argentina we hunt wild boar with dogs and knives! Or With Bow, rope. When we use a firearm, we do not use dogs and we only use 1 bullet, best regards and be careful not to kill any dogs or Companions left in the line of fire.
