The organic farmers put the sheep indoors if wormers are used, and held for the withdrawal period to prevent killing of native beetles and invertebrates. Look into what natural worming herbs and plants such as chicory, you can grow in a mixed herb pasture to reduce worm lodes safely, and without residual environmental effects.

Cheers for sharing - I hadn't realised barber pole worm liked it hot and dry and your footage of bottle jaw and the eyelids will hopefully help others. It's got me wondering now just how many livestock have perished throughout the world due to covid....

Sorry to hear you have had a rough patch. Rolling O Farm (US) has a great channel. He musters fortnightly and only worms sheep who are showing signs of anaemia (there is a chart your vet can provide), thereby reducing the routine use of wormers on the whole herd. Sheep who are repeat offenders of high worm load are eventually culled which strengthens the flock's resilience to worms. I don't know if he has your herd numbers but it would surely be more cost effective than lots of dead sheep.

You’re blaming yourself for something that isn’t your fault. You’ve just learned a valuable lesson. That’s what farming is all about. Next time you’ll play it differently. Chin up and move on sir. You’re both doing an amazing job. Praying for some rain for all of us 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Great update but if you graze sheep only on your pasture you definitely need to worm them and your vet can advise which products to use 👍

If you still have lots of dung beatles, perhaps dosing as per normal doesn't have the impact you feared.

I have a little horse farm in Connecticut. We are also in desperate need of rain. Local hay is shit and dusty. I'm steaming it. We always depend on hay so we are used to it. I worm them 4x a year regardless. We in the US are feeling the drought too. We have no control over that. I hope things get better for you guys soon.

Learn to test your poo yourself. Used microscopes are around pretty cheap and if you're not sure of what you see, post the pic on Reddit or a FB group or send to your vet.
