Developer Commentary (TalkToMe) - Battle for Naboo

I just remembered this just now, seeing youtube videos on Starwars lore missing how things were when Legends were still cannon. To me as a kid this was one of my favorite cheat codes and was excited to see other games in the future to add commentaries in their games like this one.... Sadly it never happened :( This was basically a Factor 5 thing in their games, sure there was a Tony Hawk and a SSX game that almost did the same thing. Now I am pretty sure that game companies don't add commentaries since they don't wish to share their secrets but Factor 5 were not scared and talking and seeing their work and what they do was truly inspiring and filled me with awe.

The excessive fireballs they create when crashing down is my favorite part of the commentary.

Knew about the birds thanks to hearing this as a kid but I never knew there was a giant fish here all this freaking time 7:25 Well 10 year most have not understood that part.

Hah I was going to ask you about this, since I picked up an N64 with HDMI out and was considering capturing it. Glad to see you beat me to it! I'm also going to call this the first developer commentary... ever? I can't think of an older game with dev audio commentary contained within the game.

An N64 with HDMI, nice! I feel confident in saying that Battle for Naboo was the first N64 game to have a commentary. It is possible BfN was the first game on any platform, but I’m not sure. On BfN’s Wikipedia page, there is a linked article from 2006 discussing commentaries in video games and credits this as the first. Below is an excerpt of the paragraph: “The earliest audio commentary in video games may very well be the one in Factor 5's 2000 "Star Wars" starfighter-combat game "Battle for Naboo." Back then, games were on CDs and cartridges, neither of which left a whole lot of room for bonus audio tracks. Good job! There aren't any videos showcasing the built in developer commentary. Apparently it's only available in the N64 version

I looked but couldn’t find a PC passcode for the commentary. I’m curious if the track is in the PC version, since it’s just an N64 port, without a way to unlock it. Datamining is not a skill in my toolbox.
