This is an awesome concept and his channel has just awesome ideas for games and I don’t understand why more companies don’t sponsor him to do this with their games. It's great that devs sometimes join your show to talk about stuff. In general there ought to be a greater appreciation for the inner workings of games and the creative ways game devs solve problems.
@marshallsmith192 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure the foot soldiers and their weapons are on different layers because it allows them to animate the weapon being dropped or flying out of their hands when they die, not so they can mix weapons with different foot soldier types.
@overdev19932 жыл бұрын
well they could make the weapon disappear in their animation but with a seperate weapon they are much more flexible in general
@GabePuratekuta2 жыл бұрын
Two things can be real.
@marshallsmith192 жыл бұрын
@@GabePuratekuta Why would they mix and match weapons? The whole point of the different colors is that you know what type of foot soldier you are up against. Literally every single turtles game has this baked into the design of the game. Could you imagine a purple foot soldier having the behavior of a black foot soldier? It would be confusing for no real reason.

This game is all around great. The soundtrack is awesome, the gameplay is really fun, the artwork looks great and blends together very well. I remember when the original TMNT NES game and also coin-op arcade game came out by Konami (yes, I'm old). This feels like it belongs as an extension to those games and I really would love to see more by these same devs in the future. Job well done, folks. BTW: I have the Steam version.

Its always nice to see when artists put that extra effort in to make sure things look good, makes me want to start looking through a bunch of 2d games to see what I can find. Perhaps something emulated for now as many of the older Nintendo ones have the ability to disable the layers built in and I am not smart enough to code any tools.
@Syndicate_LS2 жыл бұрын
It's always nice to see when the devs are willing to do things like this. They have zero need to do so, but it really brings them closer to the people who play the game other than just "we made it". These guys went above and beyond by creating the tool for this though. That's unnecessary but of course very nice of them.

The placeholder could be also any of the four turtles rather than just Raphael, originally all four had red bands so it makes sense to use red to represent all turtles collectively in a single character.

5:57 This was likely done just to make it a bit easier on the animators. They have more to work with and it's easier to keep things like shadows consistent when you draw the entire thing. Animating is much harder, I've figured, if you're trying to animate around something in the foreground. Just layer the foreground over it and call it a day! Because, at that point, it won't be seen anyway, why bother going frame by frame and deleting it?
@Diwasho2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's just easier to draw the whole thing, and it's practical too because if you decide to move the object's position later you can easily do it without worrying about how the cut parts will be visible.

I've heard comic book artists say that one of the hardest things is where to place text bubbles because its always going to obscure some artwork that's been drawn. I have had that problem with some of my own artwork which I'm sure a lot of you have to. This is a great video so we can see what's had to be covered up.

A lot of these fill hanging out bits really does show a good potential for some randomized levels and extra mission narrative for added side missions. I still would love to see some beat em up game like these that offer up a quickly done up monthly mission with some added text; changed up enemy placement, and make for episodes re using assets. Is much how cartoons work themselves with re used frames, music, and so on. Just a bit more script and voice work often with the occasional new art assets has made entire seasons in the past. It can do a lot, and on the cheap, for videogames. I wouldn't even mind a monthly.50 cents charge a month. Easy for many to afford and with a buy in and gift option for others, it's a cost effective way to build friendships while helping the studio keep at it without breaking the bank of players at a cost so low they can be nice to their fellows who may not have it to spare . Turns a cost into a benefit when you don't get greedy about it.

You should do a Boundary Break for Guardians of The Galaxy. Some stuff can be found after the 2nd flashback, on the way to Lady Hellbender's home/castle-thingy. Best part is, a lot of what's there can be seen just by using photo mode to clip through the walls, but photo mode sadly has a set distance, and some areas are easy to get into with the camera, but hard to get out of.
