The employer is really not interested on your personal life, hobbies, family. When the interviewer asks "tell me about yourself" you should be direct, tell your job experience with three "s". success, strength and situation.

For example: you are applying to a customer service position. You will do it like this: "I've been working in a fastfood chain, there's an irate customer where she insisted that she already paid even though she didn't. She became very angry, but I maintain my cool and try to talk her in a calm manner to resolve the issue." Some thing like that.. Success: You successfully escalated a Strength: being calm/not easily triggered by the situation. Situation: situation where you encountered an irate customer (Sorry for my bad english)

I think that's quite a detailed intro about oneself. The interviewer might not give us that much time. In that case, strength, weakness, family background etc can be omitted. Let the interviewer ask for it. Update: In my recent interview (Nov., 2022) for a Govt. post, the interviewers allowed me to mention my name, location, educational qualification and current job only. When I was about to speak of my hobbies next, they stopped me and moved on to other questions.
