Very nice work with this NaNa Tony. Bold choice with everything you removed to make the jin. They are much nicer to work with when they get their adult foliage.

That little Juniper looks already so much better after you pruned it, now at least it has a structure on which you can build the next few years. I have the same problem with most conifers as you, whenever my skin touches one of them, I get red little dots on my skin and they even sting very strongly when just water runs over them. Luckily after around 24 hours they're gone. But some of those Junipers are really nasty to work with, it's good you had some gloves on, Tony.

Yes, that's exactly the same with me. I get those little red pin prick dots too. The latex gloves are a great soluteion, and I'm hoping that when it develops it's adult foliage I will be ok with it.

I cant Believe that you copped out of making a Jin yet again in my opinion the jin would clearly have made this a great Bonsai tree .i know you have a love ...hate relationship with Junipers because they make you itch and give you a rash ..but to treat them so unfairly is an injustice.Bonsai trees have feelings also you know ... :-P

I read a few comments and I'm wondering if you can recommend a good hand moisturizer for me Tony😂 ... I'm developing 3 of these and i get a reaction from the needles too.. i feel the stinging skin for 24hrs espesicially if i prick the skin inside of my wrists. Its good to leave lots of growth on them so you wont need to work on it again for a year or 2...thats another possitive!!

I was gifted a much smaller juniper with a 2 Inch trunk and it splits off into a y shape with no verticality at all. I want to repot for development. Should I just leave it alone in a development pot for a few years before I start messing with the branches? I'm just worried that the main branches are going to grow completely "outward" instead of "upward"

I would be tempted to remove one of the Y branches, and then wire the other one upwards, but it's hard to say without seeing the tree

I have a juniper that was y shaped. I bent the larger branch right down into a full cascade and use the other for an apex. Big terracotta tall pot from the garden centre and it looks reasonable imo. It’ll get a proper pot one day.

That's looking better now, with the long branch gone. I've read that junipers need a lot of attention so they don't get too thick and shade the growth out. Just another reason for you to love it!

Hey Tony, have you tried wiring Jins with parallel wires and twisting them while the bark is still on? Gives a nice corkscrew effect a year later and a bonus is most of the bark comes away with the wire when you strip it.

Hey, i killed nearly two of these because i did root work, wiring and pruning at the same time. another one got some root work and pruning two months ago but now gets dry ends after the wiring. i think that they are very vulnerable to stress. or should i have wait longer between some work?

Never do heavy work on the root and the branches at the same time, no matter what species you're working on.
