Developing a Spring Part 2

In this video I'm trying my luck developing a water spring located on my property. I've known this spring existed for many years but, I never had cleared the property to gain access to the spring till recently. So now I'm trying to come up with a way to harness/catch the water for use throughout the farm. One common way is a spring box! I'm not quite sure what I plan on doing just yet!

Spring box or Spring House is the move. Either way, you'll do well by getting a cover on it to keep it from silting up during rain, leaves out and pigs from rooting around in it. You also might be surprised by what you can open up/ clean out with a shovel. Be careful with the mini ex around it though. Out west, springs are so desirable and fickle that few will risk the weight and heavy action causing a machine to re-route. Had a neighbor put a backhoe on a 100+ year old spring and must have cracked a rock or something because it re-routed and they couldn't revive it. Nice rock work BTW! it will be there for a long time!

Yeah I can not wait to get to this project. It will be soon. As far as the mini being close it’s true that I could mess it up! As of now I believe I’m pretty much finished with the excavation around it except for a shovel and bucket. This process to me is the coolest of cool when it comes to a homestead. I didn’t really know it existed the first 20 years of owning this property. It wasn’t till Covid shutdown that I started cleaning up this hollar (hillbilly spelling) to my enlightenment that have a spring close by that I could use for water. I’ve been trekking down to a dripping springs much further away to get my water! Thanks for stopping by and for the heads up!
