It's really cool to see that the people behind Klaus, an absolutely amazing showcase of how 2D and 3D can be combined, are investing into Grease Pencil like this. It's going to push the tool a lot. With the given performance updates and features, it already has begun to do so

The in between Shift and Trace is fantastic addition to the workflow for sure, and the drawing operator is amazing work. Performance improvements are always welcome but the SPA sequencer is amazing!

I've been DYING to see something like Quick Edit in Draw Mode!! I cannot wait to be able to use that in core Blender. It would also be awesome to be able to use something like the Push sculpting tool, which is also super useful for quick adjustments, but annoying to have to toggle between modes to use.
@rodolflum34442 жыл бұрын
releasing it to the community to play will definitely makes it stable and squash bugs that will be encountered, and maybe blender foundation can help in providing and assist by hiring its own dev as a joint venture project.

As a guy who started editing film with a hot splicer (even on 16mm mag tape!), was dragged into video by the reality that video was more suitable for broadcast than film would ever be (and designed the workflow used for virtually all the 1976 Carter Presidential Campaign spots) then developed workflows for 3/4" video (on a non-computer based edit system) that allowed more efficient editing than editing film with an assistant [for both film and video projects], and tried various strategies to develop a random access editing system in the 1980s (aware that this had been done, in principle, by CMX and Memorex in the 1960s) and, finally, recommended that the station I worked for buy (and fight to make work!) three Mac Quadra-based optical-disc-based Avid systems, it is genuinely inspiring to see how the bloody film-in-a-synchronizer-and-viewer paradigm of editing is finally being blasted wide open to allow assets to be incorporated with the ease that an experienced editor with an upright Moviola and a backlit film bin could do in 1960! [I know: caveat, caveat, caveat...🙂] This, along with some other of the Blender Conference talks, was absolutely fascinating. Perhaps not an urgent priority, particular for a company in the middle of productions, but it would be interesting to visualize the undo/redo problem not as a linear process but, navigating a tree of possible routes of play, much as a grand master might analyze possible lines of play and be able to jump from one resultant position to another at will. Easier said than done, but this would more closely correspond to the creative reality of editorial decision making. Another gigantic contribution to any production workflow would be an effective and flexible design for a generalized database to encode the assets of a production. I'm sure that a lot of blood has been spilled trying to solve the conundrum of weighing the costs required to encode descriptions along multiple axes of description to be maximally useful without taking an insane amount of time and effort. (This is of course incredibly more difficult for documentaries than for scripted dramas, although it pertains to all materials than might be construed to have future historic value.) Imagine being able to more easily find and use public domain and copylefted assets with some sort of common, descriptive language to promote creative reuse. Perhaps WikiMedia has some ideas about this...

Thank you so much!! This was great. I am running with this and learning Grease Pencil. I downloaded Spa's version (and installed both addons) and have the main branch open as well for comparison. I have two questions so far. Stabilize stroke does not seem to work in Spa's version. Checking the option under Advanced has no effect and holding shift has no effect. Am I missing something? Also, what does the Pegboard option do in this? I saw the "transform Pegs" under "Shift and Trace".

it seems like these concepts of "update-on-write" and compartmentalizing of the undo system are going to be important things for blender in the future for optimization, because why waste the computational power if there's a more efficient way?

Is your solution for the scene/sequence editor what the GP developers Storypencil addon is using or this is totally separate?
@chriscandide6432 жыл бұрын
apologies question not directed at me, but looking at the video they are two separate things. The storypencil addon basically truncates exisiting features with no scene override. The coding in the video above provides a scene override in VSE, basically removing dependency on scenes. This allows draw mode to be in the VSE with timeline function and all the amenities. Think of it as instead eating your food on the plate and walking across the room everytime to get a fork, you can now just have your fork on the plate with your food.
