Hi, This was very informative and helped me solve a key step on a solution I am working on. One observation, when you are adding the steps of variable on the workflow, if you rename the workflow step, and then add the variable, it will use your step name to assign the variable name. This will be used latter when are coding the parameters to call the flow. And the parameters on the help text will be easier to understand. Thanks for taking the time to show the world how to create a PDF from PowerApp input.

My data source is an excel file which has numerous rows and each row has data pertaining to an individual. At present my PDF displays only the first row of data fields (presented in the Browse gallery). Hey John.. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you? Are you still trying to solve this problem? If so, the solution is to use the Concat function to build the body of HTML required for the table source (Excel). Embed this into your HTML control using '&' between the strings. Hi Christophe! Thank you for your nice comments its always great to hear about someone finding my videos useful. If you want your Flow to create a new file every time with little risk of overwrite you will have to add a unique value when passing the filename from PowerApps to Flow. In my example, at 21:20 I use the unique ID but if you wanted a new file to be created each time you could add a timestamp to the end of the filename string. Hopefully that makes sense. Let me know if you need me to clarify things further. Cheers and thanks for watching!

Hi Bobbi, glad you loved the video. At this stage, ( I like to always precursor statements with 'at this stage' as Microsoft are constantly changing and evolving this product!) you must save the HTML to One Drive so that you can perform the following One Drive action to convert it to PDF. If you don't require the HTML file you can always add an additional action to remove the unwanted HTML file. Cheers!

Hey utoro...glad you liked the video.. the One Drive connector always uses your own one drive so files saved and loaded from there always come from the user's One Drive. If you want to share exports, images etc then I suggest it might be better to save the exported file to SharePoint.

Hi Michael.. Thank you so much for your nice feedback! Brings me much joy that found the video useful :) Its very easy to include fields from a form in your HTML/ PDF export and all you have to do is reference the specific datacard value you wish to add. For example, I have a PowerApps form that contains fields from a SharePoint list. Hi Santhosh... Thank you so much for your feedback. It's always really nice hearing good things about my videos and keeps me enthusiastic about doing more! Now about your question... @ChinoDoesStuff5 жыл бұрын
Hi June... I'm so glad you liked the video and hopefully found it useful. With images, you must URI encode your images using your FLOW first before they can be displayed. There are a few steps that go before the HTML creation step to get this working but I chose not to include them in this video as I was trying to keep things simple and the video time short. I'm going to do a follow up video (probably post it this weekend) that will show how to include images in the PDF. In a nutshell, begin with some images stored in One Drive, then use the Get File Contents action in your FLOW to retrieve the desired image from One Drive. Next use the Initialize a Variable step to create a string variable and set the value to be the expression - DataURI(body('get_file_contents')). Call the variable whatever you like. Once you have your variable initialized, you use it as the source for the image tag. E.g. Cheers and please post back here letting me know how you go and if you need any more help!

@junec59855 жыл бұрын
@@ChinoDoesStuff Thanks so much for putting together the follow up video. I really like the part that you just put the dynamic content into a variable instead of including it in the same variable. The video definitely solved my initial issue of how to include a static image in a PDF document. However, my case gone complicate now. I need to include a dynamic image in the PDF. So I have a list of cases studies, each case study contains some basic case study info and the customer's company logo. The logo column is a hyperlink column and has the URL to the image. When the users click to open a case study, I need to provide a Print/Export option for them to print/export the case study in PDF format. The PDF needs to include the customer's logo. Any idea of how I might be able to achieve this? Again, thanks so much for the video :)
@ChinoDoesStuff5 жыл бұрын
Hi June! I'm so glad that you found the video helpful. You are going to have to get a little 'creative' to get the export with images working exactly how you want them. I can nudge you in a couple of ways I think perhaps would be a good approach for you. One way would be to have all the company logos that your app will require pre-loaded somewhere like SharePoint in a document library that is readable by all users of the application. Pass the company value as a parameter to your 'Export to PDF' Flow much like you did with the HTML and filename. Flow can load the corresponding image from SharePoint (instead of One Drive) for the company based on your passed parameter. This means, however, that there is always a static list of companies / images that the PowerApp/Flow can handle and you must have some kind of lookup reference for each company -> image table. For simplicity you could just bake this into the Flow but you could also look this up from a SharePoint list so that it's dynamic. I guess another way, albeit somewhat more complicated, would be to allow for uploading of a company image inside of your PowerApps application. Pass the filename string as a parameter to Flow then use that as a reference to your image to include. This gives you a lot less control over what kinds of images get uploaded (file sizes, image content) so that may not be ideal. Hopefully that makes sense. Let me know how you go! Cheers.

Hello. Thank you for your great video! This solves a big problem we were having. Unfortunately, when rendering to PDF from html, all of my style changes are deleted. If I open as an HTML document, it works fine. For example, if I change the font size using Example Text here, the text will appear smaller in the HTML version but the same size as the rest of the text in the document in the PDF version. The same goes for changing font colors. The only time it renders larger is if I use the ... tags. All images are ignored as well. Any thoughts?
@ChinoDoesStuff5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jessica! I'm glad my video was of some assistance. I think the CSS support for PDF creation is kind of limited with PowerApps so you will need to experiment with different ways to apply formatting to your tags. You could try encapsulating your text in a div instead of a font tag and applying inline styles to the div. E.g. Example Text , or try and set a class for the div and add a section at the beginning of your HTML file. As for images, you must URI encode your images using your FLOW first before they can be displayed. There are a few steps that go before the HTML creation step to get this working but I chose not to include them in this video as I was trying to keep things as simple as possible and the video time as short as I could. I will probably do a follow up video next month. In a nutshell, begin with some images stored in One Drive, then use the Get File Contents action in your FLOW to retrieve the desired image from One Drive. Next use the Initialise a Variable step to create a string variable and set the value to be the expression - DataURI(body('get_file_contents')). Call the variable whatever you like. Once you have your variable initialised you use it as the source for the image tag. E.g. Hopefully this helps. Like I said I will probably try and do a follow up video on this in the coming weeks. Cheers and let me know how you go!

There shouldn't be an issue as those fields should be 'global' in all of your app screens. Have you tried displaying the value out of the card in a label on the same screen? Perhaps you are not accessing the value correctly? Try the label test first then when you get that working try it in your HTML.

Hey Daniel! Thanks so much for your nice comment. It really means a lot to know that these videos are helping out. I am trying to create a html to PDF output from PowerApps where I have a gallery embedded in my html code in a PowerApps html text box - however, I am having a difficult time getting this to convert to PDF with the desired format and tables. The report has a multiple column table where in the middle of each column is a gallery that can have between one and six rows of data depending on the item selected to report on. Any tricks or ideas - it seems that issue is having a gallery embedded in the PowerApps html text box requires the html to be a text script which doesn't convert well to PDF. The report displays well in PowerApps and Google html - converting to PDF or trying to print seems out of reach at this point.

Thanks for the nice feedback! You can use in-line CSS or styles embedded within your HTML file using style tags e.g. (don't use include files). Most styling should work for your PDF file but there may be some limitations so my suggestion would be to just experiment a little! :) Confirm your HTML is correct by opening your HTML document in a web browser and/or use a good IDE with intelli-sense that will confirm your syntax. The thing about styling is that it only takes a little error somewhere in your code and your whole document formatting will be affected. Cheers.

No worries... I'm glad to help out in any way I can. At a quick glance, I don't see anything wrong with your HTML except perhaps with how you are trying to display the tag. You need to encode the string into a valid URI first which I unfortunately didn't demonstrate in my video. Is it the display of the image file where you are having the issue? Try removing the img tag and let me know how you go.

@@ChinoDoesStuff Thanks for your reply, it seems there is no issue with Image its rendering properly, only the styles which are declared in the header section is not applying properly.

My guess is that there is something still not quite right with your HTML. HTML can be tricky because you could have a character out of place and it will still display OK in a browser but will not render as a PDF in PowerApps. I suggest stripping back your HTML until you get something working and then add styles until you get to the point of failure. Hopefully that will highlight where the issue might be.
