WARNING: Make sure you have your recording delay set to 0. I was consistently rushing and it turnes out my recording delay was on. It sounds in time while you are playing but the play back is different. once I turned it off my timing was that much better. I was down on my self for three months just to realize it was a recording error. Thought I would try to save you guys some frustration.

Thank you Jack, a much needed reminder! As a player who suffers with Parkinsonisms I find the advice about always moving seems a bit redundant! Seriously though, when you have significant tremors that are by their very nature non-rhythmic finding your groove can be very tricky. I actually find that feeling the bass drum or something that moves enough air to actually physically vibrate you helps (my poor neighbours). Other than that once again thank you for this. Good simple, and actionable advice - love that!

Hi Jack, thanks for posting! Really important stuff !We're all drummers and are responsible for the time! Playing duo gigs are fun but they really expose any time issues and what a great learning tool! People with impeccable time get the gigs!

At 3.20,Jack hits the nail on the head.In this day of yt and backing tracks and bedroom guitarists(which is good), the real deal is to get out there and play with real musicians (better than you if possible) in a live situation. You will get better by osmosis and the bpm will fluctuate to give groove and feel unlike a backing track.

Hey man! So how would you go about fixing the "rushing" of the beat? Just the subdivision exercise and repetition along with brutal honesty? Some have suggested setting the metronome REALLY slow and locking in with that to correct the mini timing issues. Any tips other than what's in the video? Thanks!

The big trouble I have is when I do a fast passage I rush myself and get to the end of the passage before I should do

I know the feeling! I’m guilty of this all the time. It sounds strange but one thing I forgot to mention in the video is breathing. It’s natural for some to take a deep breath before playing something fast, which can work, but if I’m struggling for air I find it can throw my timing off massively!

Excellent video, cheers! But for those of us who don't have any recording software or sequencer, it would be great if someone (if you don't want to!) would be able to make a backing track video with gaps in so we can have a go at the last exercise too! I enjoyed your intervals video too great stuff cheers!

You have to own a Kiesel to develop THE groove. Without that, forget about it. With a normal headstock you will never be able to feel the groove.
