One of the best "old time" performances I've ever heard. Love Rayna and John. Recording quality excellent.

Nice guitar style - a little different but it adds drive and excitement to the music and some interesting harmonic twists

John Doyle isn't just an average guitarplayer, he's fabulous! Listen to Solas (an American/Irish band where he also plays guitar)

Yes, he's actually playing through the changes harmonically at times, but it never clashes.

World class!!! Six dislike notes???????
@jamespeterson51887 жыл бұрын
I think it's because of the guitar. People are very particular about how the guitar should play when accompanying old-time. I don't mind it that much, but some would say that this "shredding" style masks the interaction of fiddles and banjo.
@sorenkjell28837 жыл бұрын
I think you may be right here,.but I like it very much. The guitar style gives a rhythmic drive very similar to what you hear in contemporary Irish "string band " music.

It's a style of guitar playing that's evolved to accompany Irish music, featuring "cross" rhythms chords. I often don't feel it particularly fits Irish fiddling, and it seems even more out of place in Appalachian string band.
@tallen1628 Жыл бұрын
I really don't like the guitarist. I love the rest. It's just my opinion though.
