The character development from the first season where she was making fun of the girls doing Indian dancing and now her doing this dance with her cousin whom she used to dislike for "being too Indian" is astronomical Edit: Sorry guys, I meant that the song the girls were dancing to in the first season was bollywood. (I believe, correct me if I'm wrong) Edit 2: sorry, for the confusion, I was wrong the girls in the 1st season weren't doing Bollywood, thank you for educating me. Because there is still some debate in the comments whether it's tollywood or kollywood, I will just leave it as "Indian Dancing." Edit 3: Okay I have no idea which one it is, but regardless the point still stands. Th character development from her hating her culture to embracing it is huge.

@-cosmixnebulae-7398 Жыл бұрын
@@serenedystopia3488 I think Saami Saami is just a good female-led wedding song, since the word “saami” can roughly be translated to “darling” or something similar, and the song is really popular in India as it stands regardless of this show. Also, I think this song is perfect for the dance routine. I could see myself dancing to Saami Saami with this choreography and feeling it matched the song, especially since there are some moves from the video song in this.
@serenedystopia3488 Жыл бұрын
@@-cosmixnebulae-7398 i mean sure I get that but this is a show that is marketed heavily for Tamil representation and there are like a plethora of Tamil songs perfectly suited for use in the sequence. that's like playing a Bengali song during a traditional wedding in Oriya.
@hmmm713 Жыл бұрын
@@serenedystopia3488 this is only a problem if you think of representation from this awkward narrow minded perspective. This is a Tamil dub of the song. The song was extremely popular all over India in it's different dubs. No Tamil person was saying it shouldn't be played at a Tamil wedding because it was originally Telugu. That's a stupid narrow minded view of the diversity in this country. Why should people view everything shown in Western media that isn't white, with a perspective that it should show the highest amount of "representation" as possible or it is not giving justice to the people it's showing. In other times, they would have used some Hindi song from 20 years ago to represent modern South Indian music

I've watched this video more times than I care to mention, but it was after 20+ times I heard Devi say to her mother, "This one is for Pati who thinks I'm a coconut." The line totally passed by me until 20 views later--brown on the outside and white on the inside. Devi finally made Pati proud by displaying her beautiful Indian self and that the color of your skin doesn't matter. Heart matters--wherever you choose to wear it! Loved the show and I'm now I'm watching The Mindy Project. Full circle.

Devi esp was spot on right from the expressions to subtle soft movements and gestures that just enhanced this whole performance . It was of brilliant to see an Indian and more specifically a South Indian song and dance and culture in general being represented so well throughout but this song in particular was such a nice addition to the whole vibe of the show, a direct gesture of Devi embracing her South Indian roots.
